Guest guest
I'm not too sure what exactly constitutes " euphoria " but if what I feel after a workout isnt that, it sure is close. I got a private email from someone who has experienced similar effects from working out (although it was a sport-activity) so maybe we're the only two, but it would seem not too far-fetched to think that since exercising releases endorphins, which makes you feel good, and lexapro is supposed to help your brain " acknowledge " (dont know a better word for it) the good chemicals in the brain, so the effect would be exaggerated. My dose is only 10mg a day, and I dont get nearly the same effect two days after a workout (the day after is particularly good for me too) or on non-lifting days, so I gotta think there is something to this. Thanks for all the responses, and to those on lexapro who dont exercise, maybe run some stairs for 20 minutes and see if you get the same effect, even the next day is noticably better than a regular day on the meds > > What you describe, getting something like a runners high, sounds like euphoria. Perhaps your Lexapro dose is too high. I had that feeling when I began Welbutrin (I felt so good, I bought $500 worth of Hermes scarves on ebay!). Guest guest
Gee I wish that had happened with me. Then I'd have had much more incentive to exercise. :-D Barbara Re: Runners high and Lexapro I'm not too sure what exactly constitutes " euphoria " but if what I feel after a workout isnt that, it sure is close. Guest guest
I'd like to have it too... I only get light headedness... but that's probably attributable due to my anxiety and shallow breathing. ________________________________ From: Barbara <bjarrett@...> Lexapro Sent: Tuesday, October 21, 2008 12:44:53 PM Subject: Re: Re: Runners high and Lexapro Gee I wish that had happened with me. Guest guest
Regular exercise is certainly very good for anxiety and depression - I cycle and do pilates etc. I haven't noticed any euphoria but in my younger days I did a lot of running and often experienced the " burn " when you break through the pain barrier which does give you a feeling of euphoria - this is of course fairly immediate.  I am on 10mg of lexapro - have been for about a year -  after developing severe debilitating anxiety and associated depression - I was off work for 6 months.  Having young children can be very stressful but that alone should not give anyone anxiety or depression. I don't know how severe your symptoms are/were - or what the effect of taking an ssri would be on someone who didnt have a reduced level of serotonin. As you experience such a positive mental attitude from working out could you work out every day and start to come of the meds ?  From: Linden <jasonlinden99@...> Subject: Re: Re: Runners high and Lexapro Lexapro Date: Wednesday, 22 October, 2008, 12:12 AM I'd like to have it too... Starting with post partum depression if you're female. Any prolonged stress can trigger problems. Some people are simply prone to it. Guest guest
Hi Barbara - yes as you say some people seem more prone to it than others. I had always doubted the physical side of mental illness i.e. brain chemical imbalance  - but the improvement I have had from lexapro has definitely convinced me - when I came off it my symptoms returned - I wont rush into that in a hurry again !  It took a while for the lex to kick back in even after a break of only a few weeks - it was almost like being back to square one again -  has anyone else foud this?   From: Linden <jasonlinden99> Subject: Re: Re: Runners high and Lexapro Lexapro@groups .com Date: Wednesday, 22 October, 2008, 12:12 AM I'd like to have it too... Guest guest
I'll respond to two points in one post: 1) The triplets brought about such a massive life-style change, well, well, beyond just having a singleton, that my body basically shut-down to protect itself. It was insanely hard. We have a 4 year old as well as the 2.5 year old triplets, and from our perspective, the first year with the one child was a celebration each day, while the first year (two actually) with the triplets was an endurance test each day . . . of which I failed miserably. This point leads me to the next one . . . 2) If I could workout each day, I might be able to get off the meds, but just finding the 30 minutes to lift twice a week is a challenge. I think I have only gotten two workouts inside a week's time twice in the past few months. Almost every minute is spoken for. Just as an aside, I'll add this point: 3) If you ever do IVF for fertility problems, be assured you just may get all 3 embryos to take. And then you have to decide if " selective reduction " is a morally acceptable option for you. We wanted all 3 to have a shot at life, and while we couldnt bear the thought of being without all of em, it's been a severe test of ourselves, our marriage, everything. > > > > What you describe, getting something like a runners high, sounds like > euphoria. Guest guest
Luckily my wife and I are well past any thoughts of IVF !  We have grandkids and I do find just having one of them too stay over is pretty stressful.  From your initial post it sounded as if you were using lexapro almost as a recreational drug when you talked about experiencing euphoria after working out while on it.  Reading your latest post hopefully I understand a bit more now - I can't begin to imagine what you must have been through during the last few years. I hope you and your partner will come through all this and as the kids get older things will get better you will be able to enjoy family life .  I have noticed that one of the first symptoms of depression / anxiety in people seems to be sleep problems. I would go so far as to say that for me the key to feeling better is getting a reasonable nights sleep. Thinking back to sleepless nights with my children I can only imagine what it must be like to have 3 infants waking you up in the night ...........        From: bearsfanreturneth <mjlis1672@...> Subject: Re: Runners high and Lexapro Lexapro Date: Monday, 27 October, 2008, 3:52 PM I'll respond to two points in one post: 1) The triplets brought about such a massive life-style change, well, well, beyond just having a singleton, that my body basically shut-down to protect itself.
