Guest guest
, I agree. The term " Senior Citizen " may offend some - but, in my book, who the heck cares about the small percentage of people who kick up a dumb fuss about such nonsense? Who really minds being called Hearing Imparied? Not me! I don't find that offensive. Of course, " Deaf " didn't bother me either. The only phrase I've ever heard that I thought was totally ridiculous was " Deaf and Dumb " . However, anytime I have ever been around anyone who used that term, I just chalked it up to their not realizing it was really dumb of THEM to not realize how ugly that sounds. Oh, by the way.... I also don't mind being called a Senior Citizen (since I am one). WHO determines that things must change because a few people in a huge majority take offense? I think too many wonderful things have changed because of the complaints of the few. My wonderment is WHY? Can't the political people who make the changes just get a backbone and say something like, " Give it a rest....and go pick another country to live in if this one bothers you so much with saluting the flag or saying a silent prayer in schools or sports events. " Most of such " Politically Correct or Not Correct " things are such a waste of time/energy to give them any notice. (Well....My 2 cents worth - that no-one ask for.) So...ok I'm climbing back off my soapbox. Evon ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
Guest guest
Yeah who cares, I dont Sure there are some labels that can be offensive but we are not really talking about those. Another phrase I think people misuse and abuse is " Happy Holidays " . I dont get it. Merry Christmas suits me just fine. Guest guest
Does anyone know the current politically correct term for hearing impaired or hard of hearing?
Guest guest
Everything comes full circle, , and so it is with this. In my area the term Hard of Hearing is preferred to " Hearing Impaired " . People didn't like the idea of being " defective " , as they said the word implied. So there ya' go. Jackie ) **************Gas prices getting you down? Search AOL Autos for fuel-efficient used cars. Guest guest
Jackie... it isn't the person who is defective. Just that certain parts, namely the hearing doesn't work well. It has nothing to do with who the person is. When I was a kid, I used to get a kick out of showing people how double jointed my fingers were. Now that I am older, I am paying the price. I now have arthritis in the fingers which I used to show off. So now... yes.... some of my fingers are impaired. That doesn't stop my brain from working and I don't get drunk so I am never " impaired " per se. But certain parts of me are impaired..... namely my fingers.... and yes..... also my ears because they no longer have the ability to hear (without my CIs). Happy Hearing!
