Guest guest
Hi Sheila: I was activated with my second CI about 4.5 years ago. You are experiencing something that happened to me, although not quite so quickly. In my first week, I just noticed that I did not like how things sounded thru the original CI alone, but over the next few weeks and months I had to keep adjusting my threshold (T) and comfort (C ) levels on the maps on the original CI downward. I continue to need to do this yet to this day but not so often (every 6-8 months). Meanwhile I was INCREASING the levels on the newly implanted ear as it " grew " into CI hearing. There is a certain amount of " balancing " that needs to take place. I found it helpful to try my best to keep the loudness levels equal as my individual maps were created in each CI ear. If you think about it, your original CI was probably doing all the work before the second ear joined for the fun! I am hopeful things settle down for you soon, but I would keep a journal and report your findings to your audiologist. Welcome to bilateral hearing!! Warmly, Carol in WI Hi all, My second CI was activated last Thursday, my first is almost 2 yrs old. I was instructed to use just the new one, except in " case of emergency " . I was in a restaurant and hubby left me alone. The host chose that moment to speak to me, of course I couldn't understand him w/just my new CI. I thought I'd turn my old one on, also, just to be able to hear and respond to him. When I turned it on the sound was extremely loud, it almost sounded as if I was just being activated, with loud bells, etc. I had to turn it off immediately. I thought maybe the old one needs to be programmed " with " the new one, or something. Then yesterday I had some phone calls to make. I thought I'd turn new one off and use the old one. When I did that- same thing. I tried to adjust for several minutes, turned the settings down, etc. Every small sound was VERY loud. I finally gave up and turned the old one off again. Has this happened to anyone else? Can anyone explain why? Thanks for any help- Sheila in MI
