Guest guest
Recently, I've had a few CI moments that I thought I would share with you. I've been going to our church to run in the mornings around 5am. Upon my return home while driving my car, with the radio on (not loud) and the windows up, I heard what sounded like a million and one birds singing in the trees that I was driving under.WOW! Prior to any of my CI's, I could barely hear the birds unless they were right on top of me but to be able to hear them through closed windows of a moving car with the radio on. Never in a million years would I have imagined to hear that well. Here's another one. Today, I was outside, pulling weeds and I kept hearing this sound that I wasn't 100% sure what it was. Anyway, after listening for a while, I finally thought " that's an owl " . My hubby wasn't home for me to ask but knew he would be soon and hoped the sound would still be there. Sure enough, he listened for it and it was an Owl. This owl kept hooting all afternoon - perhaps it's mating season. Anyway, he was trying to tell someone something that's for sure. I honestly don't know if I had ever heard a real owl before; unless it had been on TV or something. I couldn't tell where it was coming from but neither could my husband. A few weeks ago, I heard a painted turtle hiss at us. It was one we found along the road so we stopped to pick it up and take it to my hubby's grandmothers. She lives on a lake and this poor turtle looked like it had been through a lot. Anyway, it wasn't happy with us. I thought turtles were shy and hid in their shell when they were uncomfortable.not this one! It hissed at us anytime, someone tried to get near him. I didn't even know turtles made a sound! Lastly, I have always enjoyed fireworks and for the most part have enjoyed listening to them. Sometimes they have been too loud in the past and definitely would make my ears ring prior to CI's. The laws have changed in Indiana and it's now legal to set off the " BIG " fireworks. After our family had put off our small fireworks for the little ones, (all the road fireworks and sparklers.that kind of stuff..nothing big), we went out back to watch the fireworks from our deck. We had a spectacular view but the sounds were amazing. I personally liked the crackling sounding ones the best. I heard them before but this sounded so much better. Every day, I'm amazed at the wonderful sounds that God has given me the ability to hear through this amazing technology. Many sounds that the lifelong normal hearing individuals don't hear any longer because they've grown accustomed to them. I pray that I don't become so used to these sounds that I don't hear them anymore and begin to take them for granted! Anyway, I just wanted to share some new experiences. Guest guest
, Loved hearing about your CI moments! I have yet to hear an owl and am still waiting. I do hear mourning doves all day long and they sound almost like I think an owl might sound like. And being bilateral, I can tell where they are! Love it. Worked outside all weekend and loved listening to the wind in the trees, the birds, and even the rain. I'm so thankful for modern technology that allows us to hear these wonderful sounds! -- Laurie in TN Severe/Profound Hearing Loss since 1957 Implanted with Freedom 8/30/05 (left ear) Activated 9/20/05 Implanted with Freedom 1/30/07 (right ear) Activated 03/01/07 " As long as I live, I'll hear waterfalls, birds, and winds sing.
