Guest guest
The BEST thing about the good old days is it taught everyone how to be self sufficient. You walked or took the bus where you wanted to go, you took turns using the phone - even after party lines were a thing of the past, there was ONE phone line in the house and you didn't " tie it up " talking to your friends. We knew about recycling without even being told it was recycling. You used it until it wore out, or you outgrew it, and you knew ahead of time what your wardrobe would be just by looking at your older siblings. And when something was outgrown, you'd find something else to do with it. People think " memory quilts " are all the latest rage, but in fact thrifty folks cut out the best parts of outgrown clothing and made them into quilts. You used BOTH sides of the paper, and when you wanted to draw, there were the insides & backs of envelopes and backs of letters. I always refer to Sears Roebuck as " Roebucks " , just because whoever he or she was, they got a raw deal. Indeed, what happened to Roebucks? And my after school sports activity was a part time job in the credit dept of Roebucks. And I babysat for spending money, and I paid my own tuition to high school, and I paid room and board once I got a job. No allowance once you were old enough to earn your way. And you washed the dishes, ironed everyone else's clothes, made the beds for everyone and helped around the house and garden. Because it was expected of you. So when I see kids now being driven to play dates, and sports games, who don't do a lick of work and think the world owes them a living, I have to wonder what kind of rude awakenings are in store when they hit the real world. Thanks for reminding us. ____________________________________________________________ Obama Urges Homeowners to Refinance If you owe under $729k you probably qualify for Obama's Refi Program http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3141/4d408acc331fcccb8f8st05duc
