Guest guest
So glad to hear you are doing OK from the surgery. February 14th was a great day for me, also as I was activated on that day in 2008. It was the best Valentine I have ever received. Once you get back to feeling better from the surgery the tinnitus will quiet down. I was pretty sure a fire alarm was going off in my head 24/7 for the first few days after surgery then it went back to the dull ringing I had before surgery. I don't hear the tinnitus when I have my processor on the CI ear but it does come back some when I take the processor off and go back to silence in that ear. However, the tinnitus is not near as bad in that ear as it was before I had the surgery. If the dizziness continues, ask your Dr about it and don't just assume it is part of having CI surgery. I did not have the dizziness but a lot of us do and for some it is worse than for others. As for taste, I still can really pickup the taste of salt in food after almost 3 years but most of us are back to normal in a few weeks time. Probably once the swelling goes down you will be able to feel where the end of your implant is. I had to say OUCH when you said you had 12 staples. I only had 7 and they took them out the next day and it that hurt like heck, so be prepared. Looking forward to following your journey so please keep us posted. Valentine's day I felt great after the surgery on Friday and did as I was told. Stayed in bed for 2 days. Took my meds. Stayed reasonably quiet. I still have tinnitus in my implanted (left) ear. Maybe a bit softer but also with a new noise that makes a cyclic beat 24/7. Is this temporary or just more permanent noise? I am also slightly dizzy but I guess it will now pass. A little strange taste sensation on the left side, sort of " off " a bit. From other comments I guess it will resolve itself eventually. All things considered, it was quite uneventful. Mostly a bad haircut and my surgeon seems to prefer staples - 12 of them. Gone in a week anyway. Can't really tell where the disk is from the implant. Nothing to really feel but I'm not searching too hard.
Guest guest
Congratulations Lawrence. You are now in the game. I wish you a very good outcome on your activation day. But no matter what the initial results are, which are determined to some extent, by ones previous hearing history. Keep doing what the medical and audio people suggest and I wish you a very good hearing future. Are you able to wear a hearing aid in your non planted ear? This could prove to be very beneficial to you after activation. Please keep us informed of your progress and please ask ANY questions, about anything that concerns you. Most of us have been through the same routine and there are some on this list, that are 20+ year cochlear veterans. Ted F. > > Hi all, > Well all done now, just waiting for my activation on Feb 14.
