Hi, All,

I'm wondering the order of things when going for an upgrade. Would it

be:

1 - Letter of necessity from audiologist

2 - Send the letter to your insurance company and wait for approval

3 - order upgrade

A friend was told to oder the processor, THEN get the letter and send it to

insurance/medicare. Seems to me this is a risky thing to do. What if the

ins. doesn't approve it? Enlightenment, please.

Thanks, Jackie :o)

I started with the University Hospital hearing rehab center and the audiologists

there handled everything including the insurance approval.  I felt very

comfortable with these folks;  they presented the two CI types (type 3 has been

withdrawn from the market) and discussed the benefits of each without bias.  So

I agree with you in starting with the audiologist who has to confirm less than

60% comprehension for medical insurance and less than 40% for medicare coverage.

Hello:  I'm eligible for Medicare benefits therefore, my CI Freedom received 3

years ago was approved and paid for by Medicare.  I understand that Medicare

will not approve and pay for the upgrade until you have the original CI for 5

years.  Anyone know any difference?  Thanks,  Bill

I'm sorry but they are simply keeping you away from the competition by offering

to handle everything.  I don't think that is the right thing to do.

That makes no sense. Once we are implanted, most of us dont go to the

competition for further services. And why shouldnt a company offer to

handle everything?
