Guest guest
I had the roaring too post op the first time (not with the second CI surgery) I think the worst of it was gone after a few days, the rest a wk or so later. Here's email I sent to Tom instead of to the whole list last wk: Fyi to the list: I sent Mr Hagney a reply off list earlier this wk with the Cochlear phone practice number which is excellent and changes daily to optimize practice (800 458 4999). I probably should have sent it via " reply to all " as general reminder and for newbies, as we all forget some of these important CI practice tips, plus it can be overwhelming to read back-log posts to find these. To answer his question about how I use CI with phone, I have AB Harmony and use either tmic, tcoil or patch into phone with direct connect--it is good to practice with all of these as I think the variations all train the ear. My job involves important health information communication so I use the best most fail proof system for me which is direct connect with high quality land line along with a CI program with 70% input (with a second program that will input 100% phone in case I need to eliminate background noise on my end or to maximize input on speaker's end). Getting rehabbed to this point takes time and a lot of practice for most CI users, and even though almost all CI users hear way better post rehab (which can continue to effect improvement for years), there are no guarantees as to how any one person will do. I was " forced, " ie highly motivated to get phone skills in order to keep working. Although the efforts paid off and I consider myself very fortunate, there are days when background noise on speaker's end makes things extremely difficult. It is shocking how rude many people are these days in terms of using cell phone while driving cars/trucks, from parties, with screaming children/barking dogs alongside, while at work in factories or construction sites etc etc etc. But that's another topic line. I eagerly await approval of Clear Voice to see if this helps on phone & off, as I do not do well at all in noise (and am not motivated to try as I prefer to flee from it and enjoy the much more pleasant sounds in life) *Am hoping anyone with Cochlear also responds to Mr Hagney's question about how you use phone as he is lined up for that brand. Thanks, Deborah ________________________________
