Guest guest
Hi Suzanne, I am from the UK, so happily our Health Service covers these problems. On various forums, I have heard the high cost of spares and replacements you have to pay in the USA - I seem to remember that a new BTE controller is around $1000, so what a defunct processor would cost, the Lord alone knows! Looking at it coldly, that makes the premium sound not so unreal, unless you really cannot afford it. Maybe you should go look at the prices of spares etc on the website, and judge from that what it is you should do. > > I'm going on my 3rd year of wonderful CI hearing and am about to the end of > my warranty period for my Freedom processor & my back up. Guest guest
I use the extended warranty on my Freedom. I only have one and this is one of the reasons why. I pay $82/mo to keep the warranty going. Just this past year, I've had to have the controller and two coils replaced and it was as simple as calling Cochlear Americas and asking for a replacement. They load it up with the map from my audi and FedEx it to me and I mail back the old one. These buggers cost $6000, so if I didn't have the warranty and it died, I could not afford to get a new one. Guest guest
I have been wondering if CIs should be covered by home owner's policy in case Medicare does not cover some aspect. Anyone know?
Guest guest
Usually the homeowners policy only covers loss by fire, theft or mysterious disappearance. They do not cover malfunctions. Guest guest
Thanks for the topic, Suzanne. My three year CI-versary is coming up this summer and I was wondering about the extended warranty costs. I have 2 Freedoms, my backups and I have the N5s, only about 3-4 months old. So I was wondering if I should still have the Freedoms on an extended warranty. That's another question-do I still cover the Freedoms when I have the N5s. Probably best to have both covered when the N5s go under warranty in another 3 years, too? Decisions, decisions.. So, having the CIs under the home insurance only covers in case of fire or theft. Not for parts. Shari in WI
