Guest guest
Hello Jaclie: Guess I'm just not into the latest " buzz words " for us CI wearer's (left side in Feb 08), but, just what does " mapping " and " adro " mean? Bring me up to date, please!! Also, I just visited my audiologist for rechecking and she made adjustments for all the different tones and added a program expressively in an attempt to block out all the irritating " tinnitus " noises that I've suffered from for years. So far, it appears that the adjustments are now allowing every little " squeak and squack " to come through and as far as the " tinnitus noises " , they are still there. Anyone suffer as I do?? Any suggestions or antidotes would be appreciated. Thanks, Bill ________________________________ From: jackie flashnick <jackieflashnick@...> Sent: Thu, March 17, 2011 10:15:53 AM Subject: Maps - background noise  Hi, Dan, I actually just dealt with this dilemma. I had a mapping and in the office it was REALLY loud -which I usually like. But I had my audi set it 2 " clicks " down where it was just moderately loud. I had him set it on volume setting 7. That way I could go up or down. Well - sure enough, by the time I got home - (4 hours counting stop for lunch) - I had aready boosted the volume to 9! I forgot to account for adro that my audi programed into each map. SO - as luck would have it - a local friend was going for her mapping the following week. I gave her my processors, she gave them to my audi - who hooked them up to the computer and clicked the volume up 2 " clicks " on each map. (SHHH - don't pass that info around! LOL) Aha! Perfect! So - I'm guessing the adro is what keeps voice from getting distorted when loud, but kicks down he background noise, too. I hated adro before - but so far, this time it is working fo me. Don't forget - lowering or raising your sensitivity can help fine tune a map, too. Hope this helps. Jackie )
Guest guest
Audi is short for audiologist. Mapping is what your audi just did when she made adjustments to the programming. Guest guest
Oh ADRO. See if I can remember thart one. Auto Dynamic Range Optimization. Its part of the programming strategies used by Cochlear. Quote of the nanosecond... Guest guest
Hi Bill, My original CI in my right ear stopped the tinnitus in my left ear. But when I stopped using that, the tinnitus came back with a vegeance for 15 years. Then I got a new CI in my left ear ... and that made the tinnitus worse. But fortunately, when I told the audiologist, she was able to make adjustments and after another mapping session or two, the tinnitus is gone. That's one definite benefit I appreciate. Guest guest
Hi Jackie, Admittedly I haven't played around much with the sensitivity issue since getting the CI. However, I could see possibly experimenting with it more after the upgrade to the N5 cause of the remote. Whereas I could do some trial and error in places with alot of background noises and without having to take the CI on and off to do so. Dan P.S. Thank you all for your replies! > > Hi, Dan, > I actually just dealt with this dilemma. I had a mapping and in > the office it was REALLY loud -which I usually like.
