Which is precisely why audio verbal therapy is so important for children.

Because it teaches a child HOW to listen, as well as how to hear. And,

as pointed out, hearing and listening are not the same thing.

Cochlear implants can allow profoundly deaf infants to hear

speech - giving them the chance to eventually learn spoken language.

However, a new study shows that the children receiving the implants don't

automatically know how to listen when people speak to them.
