Guest guest
I am like a pesky fly, just when you think you scared it off it is back ;-) Gaiil New Member Introduction Hi Everyone:My name is Jody and I am a 50 year old female from the Worcester, MA area, and I just had my defibrillator implanted two weeks ago today. I am rather new to all of this and have lived with Cardiomyopathy for the past 8 years on a minimal dose of Lisinopril. I started having problems with palpitations and a rapid heartbeat several months ago and after seeing my Cardiologist he recommended that I consider having a defibrillator put in to prevent a sudden death episode. After introducing several new meds (Water Pill, Beta Blocker and Potassium) and adjusting doseages the doctors decided to go ahead with the proceedure on 8/24/06. I was home for a week and after a few days I felt better and wanted to get back to work. Being at home there are so many things that I wanted to be doing, such as yard work, but until I'm off restrictions, I'm actually safer in the office sitting behind a desk doing paperwork and answering a phone. Yes I do come home tired, but, as I continue to heal from my implant, I hope I can get back to life as normal for me. The two issues I'm dealing with are finding a comfortable sleeping position other than on my back, and getting my drivers side seatbelt problem resolved. I ordered a sheepskin seatbelt cover hoping it will provide more padding than a towel wrapped around the seatbelt does. Right now even with a towel the pressure over my ICD is a bit uncomfortable. Maybe in time that will improve?I go back for my first check up on 9/11 and then to the Pacemaker Clinic on 9/28. I guess I'll get used to the routine soon enough, but I will say that I'm not looking forward to getting zapped for the first time either. I look forward to learning and sharing with all of you! Thanks for listening,Jody ChamplinHolden, MA Stay in the know. Pulse on the new .com. Check it out. Guest guest
I had a better time with the people that I live with. Was a bit down. Had orders to go to daughters, went, should have stayed home with friends. No on called for my b day, Turk sent e-mail (bless him) By New Years eve if any one said 1 word - would have killed!!! Had tooth pulled on 26th, by 27th I knew I had problems there. Got that straightened out.Nothing could beat this year. Guest guest
Hi Gail... My muddy brain is at it again!! Isn't it true we are never cured? It is with us forever, but with successful tx, it will not show up in blood tests, and not be a bother, unless it flares up again? When you say 'No more damage can be done'.... do you mean while it is in remission, or undetectable? Should it flare up after any amount of time, and I THOUGHT that that could happen, and I think HAS happened to some, then you would be in the same boat as before, and it could damage your body/liver some more? Between you writing that no more damage can be done, and an earlier post saying it will lay dormant forever... er..always..... Then I truly need to change my thinking. I thought that even if I got a new liver, (healthy), that I would infect it right away, because I can't take present meds for tx. SOOOOoooo my question is, once you have tested and there are no signs of HEP C anymore...we can be free??? With a healthy liver only infected by me for a short time, I may stand a chance! (with tx) No more worry or look over our shoulders for the rest of our lives..thinking it could flare up again?? I've always thought we were in a sense.... doomed.... to have this virus in our bodies for the rest of our lives, and that being the case, it could come up bite us on the butt at anytime..so plan on spending the rest of your life with that feeling...the feeling that maybe you shouldn't help someone that's bleeding, if you are too..... or having to tell docs and nurses you are an infected person, or someone you would like to get to know better... I have really thought it was a lifetime curse. I hope I have misunderstood the concept that we never 100% get over it..it's always there, stealing your happiness just a little day by day, because even though your not sick, it is still in you, and it's always in the back of your mind that it could come back. Maybe at least not worry so much about the social stigmas?? You know....razors,fingernail clippers, sex, etc... I hope I have twisted the information on what I have led myself to believe, and that we can get to a state of health, to be able to say... No More damage can be done... stop worrying. It won't get any worse. I thought we had to, for the rest of our lives, tell whomever needs to know, that we are infected. That I have the capability to harm them, through my blood. Not like if you have some kind of VD or something, then you don't have to watch your actions after it's medicinally treated, and advise people to go away, that you will clean it up, should you cut yourself on a camping trip...or........ have to throw away food if you get cut in the kitchen, because you cut your finger on a can of beans, or whatever. I'm not trying to be argumentative, I guess I'm just really pissed off right now and don't why and don't know what to do with it. I'm happy for you, that no more damage can be done...... but I have a hard time understanding this disease anyway, and I thought ,well I already said... I hope I haven't offended you GAIL, or anyone...I'm just mad for some reason.....ggggrrrrrrrr. Guest guest
Hi Del, When they can't find the virus in your blood it's called SVR - sustained viral response. That's when the # of viruses in your blood is too small for the viral load test to count. It only means that they can't find any virus. THERE IS NO CURE YET!! Some people respond to tx but then it comes back so they're called relapsers. Some don't respond at all - like me - we're called non-responders. If you do relapse, at least the time between tx & relapse gives your liver a chance to heal a bit. When you get a t p the virus is still there & infects your new liver almost immediately. Things go down hill from there. The T P team that I saw said that the new liver is infected within the first day you get it. Hope this clears things up for you. Guest guest
If you have had treatment and your viral load is undetectable for six months, yes you can relapse.Once at a year of viral load being undetectable it is unlikely that you will relapse. The doctors check you for up to two years to make sure your viral load is undetectable and if it is you can relax. We all will test positive for hep c for the rest of our lives, but with no viral load for a period of 1or 2 years you can breath easy at one yr and feel safe at two yrs.If there is any active virus at all,it is sterile or can't populate,it is dormant and can not flare up unless you become infected again. If you get a new liver and go through treatment and treatment is successful then you will be fine. Gail gail are you hep c free?? Everyone is raving about the all-new beta.
