Guest guest
Hey, Lawrence, what a treat for Valentine's Day! It will be one month since my surgery that day. I was activated 4 days later. Much to my disappointment I did not hear words: just sounds like I was having an MRI. I had some hearing in that ear before surgery and still have some hearing in my other ear so maybe that had something to do with it. After I got my reality check, I started just being exposed to different sounds and finally after two sessions with my audiologist for mapping I started the CD that comes with my implant. I'm working on Pure Tones right now. I'm realizing that my brain is in the baby stage right now and it'll be a while before I get out of it. The brain doesn't know what these sounds are so I am training it. And, for me, it's a slow process. Lately I've started identifying environmental sounds like the ticking of the clock, the seat belt and turn signals in the car, and other such sounds. So, for me, it's obvious that it's going to be a long, gradual process. I envy the ones who write that they heard sentences right away! Did you have both ears done? I would imagine that would make a world of difference. But, in the long run, everyone is different. Let us know how it goes for you!
