Guest guest
Tinnitus is a very common thing that many have to live with. Many factors contribute to it. Diet, stress, illness. What we " hear " is not true sound, but some consider to be phantom noise similar in concept to what an amputee might experience feeling phantom pain in a limb that is no longer there. Sometimes it may be hard to ognore but that is about all one can do. Quote of the nanosecond... Tis an ill wind that blows no minds. & Dreamer Doll ke7nwn E-mail- Gone.to.Dawgs@... Sometimes it sounds like a radio with someone talking, other times some kind of repeating clapping type noise or alternating between both. My husband says he doesn't hear anything. I'm wondering if any of you have had that experience? Curious if the internal implant might be somehow picking up something somewhere and somehow affecting the non-implanted ear? I know it sounds crazy but just wanted to check and see. Sheree
Guest guest
Hello , I have been living with Tinitus for over 30 years . Though my Tinitus is usually drowned out by the sounds I hear around me during the day . It can become pronounced when there is no hearing aid on , in fact i can hear it now in my right ear which will be implanted soon .On many occasions it has become so prominent that I will hear music , dare I say even hearing choirs of singing voices or banging or thumping , which is the new sound that has come in the last couple of years. I am a musician too , so it can become interesting to hear these auditory hallucinations ~ being musical helps and at times well , it can sound weird .I can sometimes hear another note that makes a melody around the one sound that is constantly ringing ,that is if I listen carefully.Sometimes a sound can come and it is so vivid I have to check to see if I am actually hearing again! And sometimes it can be uncomfortable especially when falling asleep . I have been told that after implant the Tinitus may go or become louder or neither I guess. Is anyone not hearing Tinitus again after being implanted on the implanted ear? Cheers, Marco > > Occasionally I'll have noises in my non-implanted ear, usually when I'm laying in bed at night with my implant off. Guest guest
For some time now, when it's quiet, I hear a sound like a distant factory running or maybe a busy highway in my unimplanted ear. It isn't bothersome. On thankfully rare occasions I get loud tinnitus in my implanted ear but it usually doesn't last more than an hour or two. Guest guest
I've had my Freedom CI for 3 years in my left ear only, otherwise I'm completely deaf. I've been plagued with tinnitus for many, many years, seeming to come from the left ear. The CI affected the tinnitus somewhat by removing some of the " noises " but increasing the volume in others. In Nov last year I suffered trauma and stress in the death of my 16 yr. old cat. Additional " noises " , seeming to come from my right ear started. These " noises " were different in that there was " banging " and what sounded like " 2 pieces of steel being struck together " . These " noises " have lessened and practically disappeared now that my feelings of stress have eased. My only way of combating tinnitus is using my coping skills and attempting to " rid " my mind as much as possible. Respectfully, Bill From: hswannabe <hswannabe@...> Subject: sounds in non-implanted ear? My experience: I started out with tinnitus in my left ear when I lost all the hearing in that ear. I got the Ineraid 100 implant in my right ear in 1988. That completely stopped the tinnitus in my other ear while I used it. When I stopped using it, the tinnitus returned. I had that implant removed in 2000. In 2009, I got the AB implant in my left ear. Immediately after the surgery, the tinnitus was much, much worse, and after hookup, bothered me a lot as I was trying to learn how to hear again. But I told the audiologist, and she tweaked my mapping, and bingo! No more tinnitus. The tinnitus does come back if I leave my implants off for an extended period, but it's gone while I'm using them. And I really love that benefit all by itself. Ken -- Do the hardest thing first, then the rest will be easy. -- Unknown

Guest guest
I had " ghost " noises like that prior to my implant driving me crazy. It's called musical ear syndrome; google it and find out that you are far from alone with this. I still experience some of this but hearing seems to overpower the brain's imagination.  Harry From: hswannabe <hswannabe@...> Sent: Wednesday, May 18, 2011 2:21 PM Subject: sounds in non-implanted ear?  Occasionally I'll have noises in my non-implanted ear, usually when I'm laying in bed at night with my implant off. Guest guest
I, too, have experienced noises that sound like a radio in the distance at night in my non-implanted ear. The first time this happened I got up and checked my home to see if someone was there or if I had not turned the radio off. I have since learned to ignore such sounds.
