Guest guest
, Welcome Back! Makes you think of the evil Gym lady!!! Guest guest
This is a nutritionist we're talking about?!?!? I'm flabbergasted. Everything she told you is outdated and has been proved false. > 1. You cannot eat 6 times a day and maintain or lose weight. You MUST eat 6x a day to trick your body into burning fat. It's the ONLY way to lose FAT (not just scale weight) and maintain the weight loss. > > 2. You have to drink milk. It is the only way you can get enough calcium. Milk isn't evil, but you can get calcium from s-f yogurt, tofu and greens plus a good supplement. Milk has a lot of sugar for the protein it provides, and it doesn't satisfy hunger. > > 3. Sugars in milk and white bread and such do NOT affect the blood sugar > levels in a normal person. ??????? She needs to give me a ring. I'm " normal " (not diabetic), and sugars cause me to crash and burn. Processed carbs cause your body to release insulin, which in turns causes your blood glucose level to dip too low, leaving you tired, irritable and hungry, craving more sugar. > > 4. Some people are lucky and have good metabolisms. There is no way to > change it. This is preposterous!! The difference between one person's metabolism and another's is slight. Unless you have hypothyroidism, your metabolism is fine, and it can be increased by building muscle. > 5. It is fine to do portions. But, it really doesn't help because it is all > about calories. Another ARHGHGGHGHG!! It is NOT about the calories. I eat more now than I ever did before, and I'm losing weight. When I was a diet ninny (to quote ), I was eating 600-800 cals a day, and I couldn't lose weight. As soon as I started eating 1200, I started gaining. WHY? Because I had put my body into starvation mode. It panicked and hoarded fat. Cutting calories is the best way to get fat and end up in the obsessive loony bin. This woman shouldn't be a practicing nutritionist. Don't listen to her!!! And show her who knows best. dani
Guest guest
sweety if i were u i'd hire another dietician/nutritionist, she obviously has no clue what shes talking about! milk is fattening its good calcium but orange juice is good vitamin c too not to mention cheese that can be low fat or 1, 2% not to mention skim, and eating 6 small meals a day can work, u dont have to count calories i've lost 15 lbs w/o counting calories and just changing my style of eating and portion sizes, portion size is good if u want to have something fattening have your portion size don't deprive yourself, gee i want this ladies name she is obviously in it for the money she shouldn't have a license to do this
Guest guest
I remember you . I was RCDudley back then. About the trip to the nutritionist - How is it that the people who should know the most are still going by outdated info and spreading myths? It is so annoying trying to have conversations with people when they have these set ideas in their minds about nutrition, and that way of eating did not work for me, and this way does. Good luck on your new Challenge and you gotta show her some new stuff! Robin
Guest guest
--- Coming to this ladies defense. My first year of university, I was in dietetics. This is what they teach you. For people who are a healthy weight, and have a high metabolism, this might be ok advice. The pyramid food guids is still out there. It doesn't mean she is in it for the money. I think she probably really believes what she is talking about. It is against body for life yes, but it is what is being taught to the majority of people. Maybe it works for some. The glycemic rating for milk is actually alot less than other carbs. It is fattening, just like anything else can be fattening if you consume too much. I personally do drink milk, and have had no problems. Guest guest
Hi n, I have tried BFL as well as many other diets throughout the years. At the beginning of this year, I decided to do it on my own and successfully lost 32lbs by cutting back, eating better and simply walking for 45mins. I got off track and gained 5lbs back. Last week I joined a gym and am so happy to be back working with weights. I too have come back to BFL in a way. I enjoy the shakes and bars - which I use inbetween meals. I don't know if I will follow the book to the T, but may just use it as a guideline. I am more successful when I do not stress and obsess over a plan and worry myself sick over every meal and measurement. I am determined. I have so many before pictures and it's time to take an after! ~ > I have done body for life several times and I am usually good for > about 6 months, then fall off for a few months then I get back at it. > I need to stay focused and not fall off after I finish a challenge. > My life has been crazy lately, having just moved to a new city and > many other life changes. Guest guest
Hi Sue, I am in much the same boat, but different in that the initial surgery was not the greatest success. However I have been persuaded to be open about this - I also did not want to put others off - because the others feel that people should know all the odds when they make a decision and that it could not work so well was one of the odds. Also I have since learned that if the Oesphagus is very dilated surgery is often not as sucessful, but why that should be the case I can't figure out because you are working on the LES and not the oesophagus itself. This is obviously not the case with you. Also the surgeon may not have gone far enough or he may have made the fundoplication too tight. I also had a rough time in ICU after my op and don't know why, but that is also something people have to know - complications can happen, but are the exception rather than the rule. I too would do it again - with a different surgeon! I will probably have to go with in the next year or so but have managed to get a reprieve with a dilatation which was about 80% successful. Good luck Joan Johannesburg South Africa jpearse@... coming back hello everyone so sorry havent been here in awhile will try to get here more often, one reason was didnt want to put anyone of their surgery, I had surgery afew years ago was great didnt have to take pills anymore and the eating seemed better well it was, was sooooooo nice to eat and drink without the problem, but as time as gone on its starting to come back, now its getting worse so far still not taking pills, but have seen the surgeon and another one he wanted me to see for second opinion he didnt recommend second surgery yes had tests and shows the esphogus isent working well, now along with achalasia also top part of esphogus have difuse spasms, anyways the other surgeon said i may have to have surgery again but dont go to see them till november then guess they will decide what they will do either a ballon dilation or surgery, now please anyone going to have the surgery do not be put off as i recommend it even though its coming b ack have had three years where its been good, i will if recommended have the surgery again. sue Post your free ad now! Guest guest
Sue, It's good to read your story and how a has affected you. The results of surgery for you, the good and the bad, are helpful, I would think, for anyone who needs to have realistic but hopeful desires for a more normal future. I think we all need to hear the possible good and bad outcomes of every procedure, to make a well-reasoned choice for ourselves. Seldom in life are things all good or all bad. As long as the possible benefits outweigh the risks- But in life nothing is guaranteed. All we can do is choose wisely, have expert, compassionate doctors, and hope and pray for the best. Guest guest
Hi Kathleen. Glad you are back with BFL. I am NO expert but I think that 1500-1700 seems kinda high. Can you cut that down closer to 1300- 1400 per day & bump up your cardio to 4-5x per week. I know that with my body type (pear shape, i don't lose weight easily) that I must have more cardio than BFL requires. I do alot of The Firm workouts w/ lighter weights but it's still working my muscles so I don't have muscle loss...just fat loss. And I do walking/jogging for my HIIT or the ellipical at the gym. I recently go the e-book Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle which I have been reading daily for a week now and it's giving me some diffent angles to look at and NEW motivation, which is always good! > Hi! my name is Kathleen. i've been reading the posts for a couple of > days now. Guest guest
Hi Tammy! I think working on a few habits at a time is the easiest way to go about things. I worked on adding exercise first, then worked on limiting my calories each day, then worked on getting better foods into my diet, etc. One step at a time Sounds like things are pretty busy for you! I'm 31 and a SAHM as well. It's sure challenging at times (but soooo rewarding!). My kids are 5 & 2 1/2. Anyway, glad you're back! Guest guest
Hi All! After a long hiatus, I finally found my way back to CI Hear. Sorry, I've been out of commission the past two and a half years or so. I had a lot to deal with my Dad going on home hospice and then his death from end stage renal disease and then moving out of the only home I ever lived in. Whew, it's been a heck of a time! I'm settled in with other family members now and trying to find my new niche in life. I just spent some time reading a lot of the posts and I must say it's good to see the familiar names in here as well as new ones too! Most of you will remember me as Velma or Scrabbler214. My name is Patti. I got implanted in 2002 with the N24C and had a very rough recovery due to balance issues; but I'm soooo very grateful with what the CI has given me! I wore the 3G on my left side until June when I was upgraded to the N5. I really like the N5. I pretty much stick with the everyday program although I have had some success with the noise program. I am not impressed with the Focus or Music programs at this time. I've only had one mapping so far so am not giving up. I know music sounded great on my 3G so I am sure it will sound great on the N5 someday again. My telecoil just buzzes when I use it so I just find a quiet room when I need to use the phone. I have a new audie and a new ENT since my original ENT and audie have transferred to other states. My new audie is new to Cochlear Implants so she currently has a Cochlear Rep at all her appointments. Under my previous audie, I would have been able to go back anytime I felt I needed a new mapping. My new audie wants me back in 3 months for a sound testing and a mapping. The cochlear rep approved this even though I had my doubts about waiting so long. I am going back for a fast tweaking in 2 weeks though because they put Autosenstivity on my everyday program and I can't stand autosenstivity. I want to hear the water running and toilet flushing and the traffic noise. I don't want everything cutting out at the same time. But all in all I am happy with the current map and still very much in awe with what the CI has given me! Hope you are all doing good! Guest guest
Welcome, back Patti. I don't remember you but I'm sure others do and anyway, we're all friends. I agree with you about the auto sensitivity. I've had the Freedom since Jan. 2006 and recently upgraded to the N5 (which I've talked about here ad nauseam, so will refrain). However, I've had the same audi since the beginning, and she looked up at me and said, " I don't think you want the auto, right? " and we both smiled because as you say, I want to hear it all. I'm surprised you can't go back as often as you'd like, but the audis are all different. Judy , Jax, FL > > Hi All! > After a long hiatus, I finally found my way back to CI Hear. Guest guest
Hi Judy, Thanks for the nice message! I remember you and I guess you don'r rememeber me because I didn't post much since the Freedom came out since I had the 3G and couldn't relate to smart sounds and noise program and microphone covers and rechargable batteries. Now, I am relating! I was surprised, too, when I was told my next mapping would be in 3 months. I'm going to wait and see what happens. There was some kind of falling out at my CI Center 3 or 4 yrs ago and both my original ENT and audie left and it took a long time for them to get the CI Program for adults up and running again. I went 4 years without a mapping so what's 3 months if I am doing pretty good with the map? When I found out that they brought in people fresh out of med school, I was willing to stick around to see how it went. So, for now I am sticking it out. There are only 2 other possible CI Centers I could go to and one is not taking any patients that have not been implanted by them. I haven't tried the other yet. My new audie only works with CI patients once a week and when I expressed my dissappointment about that, she said they are going to be training another audie soon. In the meantime a Cochlear Rep is training her. I am not sure if this means she will be leaving once the new audie is trained. I'll find out soon enough. I really miss how my other audie mapped and did things. It's too techical now and now they want to do sound testing next time I go back for a mapping. I told them I haven't been in a sound booth since my CI Candicacy Testing and that's the way I had wanted to keep it. The Cochlear Rep says that's too long since my last test. I told her I never was interested in scores and numbers and that I was always mapped on life experience and what I knew I was hearing and what I knew I was missing. I do not want to be tested and find out I scored upwards of 85% in a sound booth when I know I am not getting that in real life. But, what I am getting in real life is the best darn hearing I've ever had in my whole life! And I am happy with that and don't need a score. I must keep this short. 8-) Have a nice day! 8-) Patti

Guest guest
There is auto-sensitivity on Focus, Noise and Music programs. I find it extremely annoying. Listening to music is certainly not something you want to do with auto-sensitivity unless your music is a monotone. Every time the music rises, the sound cuts almost out. Guest guest
Hi Neil, I have been mainly using my everday program and that is where I notice the autosensitivity. I had success with the noise program at a very loud meeting but have not been impressed with Focus or Music yet. Autosensitivity is a feature that the audie programs into your program, if you want it, to squelch down loud noises. Unfortunately, the Cochlear Rep programmed it in without asking me and I didn't realize it until getting home. Mine kicks in when water is running, toilet flushing, traffic noise, and when kids' voices get to a certain decibal. When any of those things happen, it squelches down all the sounds going on at the same time and things are muffled until the offending noise is gone. Then the volume returns to normal. I HATE it and can't wait until it's taken off on the 23rd. I rather work with the volume and sensitivty controls myself on an as needed basis. Have a good day! Patti > > Wow is that right ! Guest guest
Funny enough I am listening to music right now with the cable and I have it on everyday, on the music setting it sounds the same but a nit more crackily I'm confused. Guest guest
Agree, Patti. I intensely dislike anything that is automatic on my processor, whether it's the sensitivity or the t-coil. I'd rather do it myself. Judy > > > > Wow is that right ! I practically never change from everyday ! Guest guest
The AS may be why I dont use the Focus or the music programs. I never could understand why AS was added to the music program, and when I tried it, became quite annoyed. LOL I use the everyday program for my music and with t coil (neckloop). And obviously, as a blind person, I cannot use AS when I am out walking. It sure is noisy out there but I need to hear it all. Of course its usually no good for conversatiion " On the Street " but I can switch to the noise program if need be. Quote of the nanosecond...
