My telecoil works just fine in a variety of settings, no problems

whatsoever.

For those who have been following the thread re the positioning of the

telecoil in the Cochlear N5 processor, I've just received an email from a CI

audiologist who checked with Cochlear and she wrote: " I just confirmed that

the telecoil cannot be repositioned. " It appears then, that until Cochlear

does some re-engineering of the N5 that anyone upgrading to it or being

fitted with one as their first CI, will simply have to live with their old

Freedom processor or live with less than satisfactory telecoil performance.

For any who are concerned it would be helpful if you would express those

concerns to your CI surgeon, his/her audiologist and Cochlear's home offices

and any Cochlear reps you might have contact with. O. Frazier, NM

Steve,

Let's see how the poll results come in. It seems that some people are not

experiencing any problems. It's a beautiful processor and hopefully it's not as

dramatic a problem as it may appear to you right now. Since you haven't

experienced a CI, you don't realize how much strength they really have and how

much more you can hear with it.

Except for those of us who experience satisfactory telecoil performance with the

N5.

I agree wholeheartedly that if it works for you, then that's wonderful. I keep

hearing from people how well it works for them and I always say, " I'm happy for

you, but it's NOT working for me. " I think they believe that if they tell me

often enough, it will change for me. I'm not sure that will happen and so I

think no one should be discouraged from speaking about any trouble they have

with their processors.

I've had that thought too, Bob, because I've heard from folks that the N5 works

fine and yet they don't use the t-coil or loops. Like you, I had wondered if

they had given the t-coil and the looping environment a good trial. It's not

something that's done in a day or two, but takes weeks at the least.
