Hello Rhonda.

With CI's there is a whole new world of hearing waiting for you.

I was in the 80-100 db loss range from my early twenties, when I was given

an overdose of meds, 15 X the amount I should have been given.

I got my implant, N 24C in August 2002, I was 62 years old, and deaf for

most of my life.

It was a life saver for me, I was not really able to do my job very well,

I got home every night , exhausted, stressed, and in tears.

The CI turned my life around.

I did so much better with the 3G for nine years, but now, with my recent

upgrade to the N5, I can clearly hear voices, with four programs to work

from, and the ease of using the remote, the sound is fuller, more rounded.

Music, wasn't very good with the 3G, but with the N5 it is great. I can

hear the lyrics and the back ground music.

I have switched off the captions on my TV, because if they are there, I

will read them, instead of trying to LISTEN.

I am thinking about getting CIs. I am scheduled for the serial testing

and CT scan. Lots of quetions un through my mind, but the one that stand out

is this:

I am in the 80-100 db loss range. have had progressive HL all my life.

Now with HA, I can hear some sounds but I just cant understand speech at

all! That is the main reason I want CIs. Can anyone tell me their story, esp

if it is similar to mine? Thanks!
