Guest guest
Wow I fEel for you deeply. And when they do the surgery they might or might now replace the C1512 with the previous generation as that works with the N5 processor apparantly. It is constantly on my mind now that I am at rish of my implant failing I'm just praying it doesn't. Iv got my " 3 month follow up " on the 10th october (just few weeks away) and then 6 days later its my 25th birthday so I would aPpreciate not to be told that it would need to be replaced. I have a desire to go bilateral and have my right ear done as well but problem, funding will be very hard to obtain because of the not so nice NICE guidelines here in the UK which meand that adults 19 or over cannot have the other ear done unless funding myself and for that I'd have to win the lottery! But I might be able to in view of my other health problems but if I do I'm not sure if I will want to have a freedom implant and rather wait for the C1512 to come back£ I was referred on 5th feb 2008, op 27th april 2011 activated 26th may 2011. The reason for the such long wait is because of funding (which they refused even before the NICE guidelines came out) and also the AB recall of the 90k harmony CI which was the one I was initially going to havr so basically I just got lucky with this one. Life is cruel to me! Lol. I had a difficult recovery after surgery, it is not an experience I would like to repeat ! > >Neil > > > >Sent from my iPad > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
My daughter went through two failed implants only they were AB devices. She now has the Freedom device and uses the N5 processors. She does wonderfully with them. My heart goes out to you because I know how difficult it is to see your child go through surgery. Guest guest
It does not help to speculate on what " they might or might not do " . In your case, since you have the N5 implant, its a concern, but, dont let it control you. If its working, they will not replace it. Quote of the nanosecond... Guest guest
Deap Kathy I am so sorry to hear that this has happened. Maybr it would be good to inform cochlear as I think that if they have an idea of the areas where the implants are failing they would be able to find the source of the recent surge in failures. They say only 1% has failed since launch in 2009 but a recent surge in failures. Prayers that this surgery will be successful and her recovery a smooth one! So very sorry you are all going through this! Keep us posted on how it's going for her. Guest guest
That 1% failure rate is not quite correct, . As of September 9, there were 162 cases of the implant ceasing to function out of 25,516 registered users of the C1512 implant - LESS than 1% - .63% to be more specific. Bob ...... Guest guest
I meant less than 1% and I got that info direct from cochlear in the letter I was sent. Guest guest
Trust me , Cochleare is very on top of this. And they will most assuredly examine every inplant that comes back to them.
