Guest guest
Hi. I just found this group and have a question for my mother, Marilyn. She is 83 and is seriously considering a CI. She is nearly deaf and hasn't worn hearing aids since they don't help much at all in comprehension. She lost her hearing a few years ago and doesn't speak sign language or read lips. We have to write things down to communicate. In order to get the CI, one requirement is that she has to wear hearing aids for a month before her hearing test. Her biggest fear with the CI is that there will be too much noise and it will drive her crazy like the hearing aids do. I think the hearing aids sound like constant static to her and also she isn't used to it. I'm curious about the experiences of others and if the noise was bothersome? When there aren't many sounds can you hear quietness or is there static and noise all the time? What about balance problems? Thanks for any comments any of you might have!
