Guest guest
Are you able to bring your own alternative helmet? If so, maybe you can find something that works and bring that to class. I still haven't found an ideal solution for bicycling. My head is large (haha) so I already need the largest available size of biking helmets, and those don't leave any room for my headgear. I did take one regular bike helmet and cut holes in the sides, but that compromises the integrity of the helmet (and I've had accidents in the past that have put holes in my helmet, which makes me very glad that those holes weren't in my head, so I definitely require a good helmet). And it's also tricky trying to get the helmet and headgear positioned just right. If the helmet shifts a bit, it moves out of position and my hearing shuts off. So after consulting several sports stores, I bought the largest available snowboarding helmet, which does have more space inside, and that just barely accomodates both of my implants, but I find that it's just a bit too tight, so after biking for a while, it gets painful. It does work better with just one implant. Guest guest
Have you spoken with the person in charge of CERT about the helmet issue? Surely they could find a way to adjust the helmet so that it doesn't bother the headpiece. Just thinking of my helmet, I don't see how it would be possible but I don't know. I would think there would be a way though, making adjustments of some sort. I was part of CERT a few years back but I only had hearing aids so I didn't have much of an issue with the helmet. Guest guest
We cannot take our packs home until end of class but I spent some time last night during lecture to try different ways to put the helmet in. Its a hard hat style which has a plastic band inside that keeps it on your head. I was given a chin strap so I dont have to fit it tighter. I think I will get it set up ok. Just need to keep playing with it each week. Years and years ago I had a motorcycle and used full helmets. Didnt take long to get used to that even with hearing aids. The trick then was to turn them down just enough to stop the feedback. Bicycle kelmets did not give me any trouble but I guess I dont have a big head. LOL We never run short of challenges do we?
