Deborah,

I didn't mean to come across wrong but the reason I joined this room is to talk

to people in the same situation as me as well as people with hearing loss since

birth.  I also joined it for support with dealing with all of this that

happened overnight on April the 28th of last year.  I get one here for advice,

knowledge and to educate myself.  I just had my first implant and was done

right before the weekend so am experiencing things that aren't normal as any

surgery of course.  Thanks for the support and am doing well, Vicodin is taking

care of the pain and am moving forward through it all.  I will respond to

questions like what you asked my only in personal emails back and forth.

Thanks,

and ,

I'm so sorry about the pain and discomfort you are going through. Hopefully

things will ease up in the next hours and days.

I hope you recover quickly and want you to know there are people out here

wishing the best for both of you. Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

Vicodin and Motrin.  Vicodin doesn't give me headaches.  I think it's just

from the surgery but am learning from everyone else which I assume you are as

well.  You will like having the bandage off, I know I did.  Still have some

stuck to the strips but am going to have my PCP take the rest off on Monday as

for I am to nervous to do it.  Afraid I may pull the strips off over the

incision.  Hope you do well today and get better.

today. I've got a big bruise above my mouth, I'm guessing from the tubes. It

almost looks like a moustache. That with my turban has given me a bit of comic

relief every time I look in the mirror.

>

> Anyway, I'm so sorry you're not feeling very well. The coughing must be so

painful. Every time I burp or move my mouth, it hurts like hell. Also, I wonder

if your headache this morning could be from the Vicodin? Even though it's a pain

killer, Vicodin has been known to cause migraines in some people. I've taken it

once before and ended up with the most debiliating headache. I'm taking a pain

killer called Propoxyphen- APAP... seems to be doing a good job without many

side effects.

in the hospital and mild discomfort after that could be eased with Advil. I

guess we are proof that we all have different experiences. I spent 11 hours in

the hospital with extreme pain and discomfort. I also heard that hair was no

longer shaved, but that must vary between hospitals. I did have a patch shaved

off, not sure how big yet but will see when I take off the bandage today.

soon. You're right... Valium sounds good right about now!

and O. - hang in there. All that you are experiencing is

quite normal. Those who have no pain or tinnitus after this surgery are the

" abnormal " ones! LOL It can take a week or two - or a few months to feel

like your old self again. Once you are activated, some of that tinnitus

really does fade into the background a bit when wearing your processor. These

first few weeks the tinnitus can roar and take many forms - including

sounding like a freight train coming through your head. I had 3 of these

surgeries. After the first one I was driving in 4 days, off pain pills, but

black, blue, yellow and red for a few weeks on the surgery side from forehead

to down my neck. After the second, I had no bruising at all, but was a

little dizzy for 2 weeks. After the third, no bruising and feeling " off " ,

including very dizzy, for about 2 MONTHS! There is no rhyme or reason why it

happens to some and not others. So - hand in there - if symptoms are

debilitating , call your PS - and tell us here. We may be able to help - if

nothing else, insist you call your PS. Good luck! Jackie (the original) LOL

Hi everyone,

Thanks for sharing your experiences - it helps as I get through this recovery

process. It's the 3rd day after surgery and I'm definitely feeling better... but

not ready to go back to work. I started getting dizziness yesterday. The

prescribed dramamine has helped. The bruise on my face is moving downward, so

hopefully it will soon dissipate. For now, it looks like I've been socked in the

mouth. Pain has definitely subsided a lot... I'm really tired, but that could be

from the meds. Thanks for the heads-up about tinnitus. It's screaming loud, but

I'm used to having severe tinnitus. In a way, I'm wondering if it's better than

having complete silence in that ear. I am still getting used to the total

deafness in the ear they implanted. Lastly, I CAN'T WAIT to wash my hair!!
