Lee,

While the bill was signed other issues as to when to bring it into effect needs

to be decided.  HLAA (Hearing Loss Association of America)  is working on this

and you can follow the reports on this and other advocacy issues by following

the Advocacy blog at:  http://bitly.net/dPY5k6

Subject: off topic (sort of) CC on internet

Date: Saturday, March 12, 2011, 8:13 AM

forgive me for being a moron,,, but I need to be clarified. The bill

that

was signed by president a few months ago; was this to mandate CC on

internet video, including live stream news? If so, I haven't find a LIVE news

online yet that provides CC, unless I am doing something wrong. What I found

was this,, let us know and we will provide you in 24 hours (yesterday's

news.)

Thank you Toni. I read the article, I guess it's not perfected yet. This

is what I found out.

" Under the new law, once a television program is published or exhibited on

television with closed captions, any subsequent distribution of that

programming on the Internet must include closed captions. "

I guess this is what my local stations were saying,, " yesterday news are

CC " But then, does it means, they will have to provide CC on the internet

even though it was on TV and internet simulatively some day? The way my

stations are doing, if I asked for CC, they will install the CC on old news,

something I don't want.

I also read that no one really knows when the law takes effect because it

has to go through several committee sessions, but the committee should first

meet by April 2011. I still think if everyone can watch live news on the

internet, they should included CC option for us. The bill that was signed

didn't cover that! Maybe the committees will fix it.
