Washing your hair

I wash my hair in bed every day and have found it much easier on me than

showering. I have to replace my inflatable hair washer thingy (no idea what to

call it!) every now and then, as it tends to get holes. But yeah, I like it.

I've heard that the no-rinse products aren't so good for long hair on a regular

basis, though they're better than nothing in some circumstances.

Oh my gosh, I used to get my hair washed the same way when I was younger,

until I grew too long for the countertop. It's amazing what you forget as you

age. Anyway, I have been using those aluminum roasting pans for years now, the

kind you can buy almost anywhere for under a couple bucks. Simply cut the bottom

out of one end of it, the other end can be shaped to cradle your head/neck,

and the entire pan is just long enough to extend from the back of the

wheelchair to the sink. To get my hair wet, we typically use a very large cup,

like 32

ounces, or a standard beverage pitcher to avoid having to refill/rinse a

thousand times.

I have tried so many different options, sometimes spending way too much

money, and this has worked the best through the years.

Hi,

I've taken a bath once and showered once since my implant.

Admittedly, when I washed my hair, I was a little tentative and tried

not to wet the side of where the surgery took place too much.

We usually just put the shampoo on top of our heads and let it flow

from there anyway.

Should I continue to be tentative on not wetting that side too much or

what ? And for how long ?

Thanks !

Hello Dan, congratulations on your successful surgery.

You got there :-)

I was told NOT to wash my hair for a week after the surgery.

Sounds like a typically English response, Virg :-)

Shame on you (english born)Ted,we poms now all own baths or showers,

(and most of us use them). Having to go to the public baths, or drag

in the tin bath once a week is right out of fashion.

Moreover, since none of us are on tanked water, and god usually

supplies our rain to the point of excess,we dont have to feel morally

obliged to shower with a 2 minute timer running!

Hi

I was told by my surgeon to try and keep the incision dry for at least 10 days

and if I did get it wet, to just pat it dry (don't rub). Hubby helped me wash

my hair about every three days after surgery and we did use a medicated shampoo.

The shampoo was something the Dr. ask me to use for a week or so before the

surgery just to keep the risk of infection down after surgery so we used it

after the surgery, too for that reason.
