Guest guest
Hello friends: My son y is almost 4 years old and has had a CI on his right side for more than a year and a half. The surgery was performed by Dr. iades at New York Eye and Ear in New York City. He loves the water and we have been wanting to get him swim lessons, does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on local resources for children swim lessons for CI recipent or the deaf and hard of hearing. In the same vein, we are thinking about having him start to play soccer. Any suggestions on best ways to keep his implant on while playing team sports (a headband?) Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated. Best. Jay
Guest guest
Hello Jay, My son Christian (7;8) has been involved in our local soccer team for almost two years now. We use toupet tape around the clock (not only for soccer) to make the processors stay on his head. It works great for him. Best wishes, Sabine in Cologne, Germany with (12/98), Christian (4/00, great hearing with 2 CIs since 4/01 after meningitis), Florian (6/02) and Tobias (8/04) - all growing up bilingually German/English
Guest guest
-Hi Jay, At age 4 my son wore hearing aids, he received his ci at age 8, but he took swimming lessons and played soccer at that age. During swimming lessons, he went unaided and had a private swim instructor with him within the class who would speak to him so that Jordan could read his lips. With regard to soccer, he wore earmolds with his hearing aids and he now wears an earmold with his processor for just that reason, to keep it in place while he plays baseball. I recommend using an earmold and a hat or headband to keep the ci in place so he doesn't have to worry about it falling off...good luck, it's so important that you get him involved at this age in sports. We just need to work with the ci, but there are no limitations.Jodi-- In , " jaystrell " <jaystrell@...> wrote: > > Hello friends: > > My son y is almost 4 years old and has had a CI on his right side > for more than a year and a half.
