Hello and Welcome in!!

I have been a long time member of this group, and an even longer CI user of

going on 15 years this year. I have a 2 generations back implant, but one

generation back processor and waiting for the current generation processor

N5! So, you can see I have been able to keep up with all the latest

upgrades with my EXTERNAL processor equipment.

I remember only like yesterday the day I was wheeled into surgery for

implant #1 (I am bilateral).....and somehow I just let it go and prayed that

the surgeon's hands be blest and guided to place the implant properly!

Suddenly I felt like I was in a warm cocoon of warmth and I relaxed. It

could have been the meds but I believe God was watching over me. Choose

your own way, but relax and breathe........trusting in your surgeon's

training and expertise!

To have my CI surgery was he most life altering and BEST decision I have

ever made in my life. It was not easy in the first months, but with the

suport of people on this list and good communication with your audiology

team, you have lots of help on this journey back to hearing! I hope you

check back here and keep us posted on how it goes.

On surgery day, consider asking for anti nausea meds just in case you are

one who is easily nauseated with surgical anesthesia. Take a shirt that has

a large head opening to go over the bandage you will likely have over he

ear. Also, have a pillow in your car to rest your head back on.

Best of luck to you! Enjoy the Super Bowl and don't think too much about it

and Monday morning we be here before you know it!

Warmly, Carol in WI

I am a new member of this group. My cochlear implant surgery is scheduled

for Monday, February 7. I chose the Cochlear Nucleus 5 product. I am very

anxious about this procedure given all the possible things that can go

wrong, but I'm also confident that my surgeon (Dr. Telian at the

University of Michigan) knows what he's doing. I'm hopeful that all goes

well.
