Guest guest
Hi everyone, Thank you to everyone who weighed in on my post about upgrades and bilateral surgery -- I really appreciate all the input! I do apologize for setting off a brand war -- I really didn't mean to do that. I know that both companies have very satisfied customers and would never want to bash one company over the other. I have two questions about using a CI -- one I asked the audiologist but she didn't know the answer, because it's kind of unusual and nobody's ever asked her before. The other my mom just asked me last night, and I had no idea how to answer her! First, has anybody used a magnetic induction cooktop while wearing their CI? (This was what I asked the audiologist.) We have this type of cooktop and I wasn't sure if the magnet in the cooktop and magnet in the CI would conflict with each other. Second, do you have problems going through theft detection sensors/devices in stores? I know when I wore my bi-CROS hearing aids through them, I'd get terrible buzzing...depending on how strong the theft detector was, I'd sometimes have to turn off my hearing aids because it was actually painful. Do they affect CIs like that too? If the cooktop is going to be a problem, it will just be the impetus we need to get a new one. Two of the four burners don't work anymore and are too costly to repair (we repaired them once and they burnt out again just a month or so later). I love the technology but just can't afford it <g> so I guess we'll switch to an electric cooktop. Anyway, thanks to all! ~Wendi in Illinois http://suddensilence.wordpress.com/
Guest guest
Wendi, Because I have been looking for a new cooktop, I inquired about this very item and was told by the people at Cochlear Corporation that there would be no interference from an induction cooktop. As far as theft detection/sensors are concerned, I have never set any off anywhere. Hope this helps. Happy Hearing! Guest guest
Hey , Can't answer the one about the stove.. As for the alarm systems in stores, I used to have a problem with them when I wore hearing aids; especially near jewelry departments/sections in the stores. I have not had any noise/buzzing or feeling when I've been near those same areas since having my single or now bilateral implants. Guest guest
Wendi, Even if the magnetic induction cooktop doesn't bother the CI, it's a great excuse NOT to cook. You know the 4 food groups, right? Restaurant, carry out, microwave and raw. The only time I've ever set off an alarm with the CI is in the library. And I do it all the time. They just wave me through. I do remove the implant and get hand scanned going through airports, because I do not want a $6,000 piece of equipment getting caught in an X-ray belt, oops, " sorry " . You can remove the processor before going through an airport scanner if you prefer to do it that way. Cochlear advises you to turn it off, because it can make a loud noise. Who knows, I've never gone through with mine on. Hi everyone, Thank you to everyone who weighed in on my post about upgrades and bilateral surgery -- I really appreciate all the input!
