Guest guest
Patty, I've been told I'm border line low??? I'll have to go back through my records and see. I was on straight T-3 therapy for 5 or 6 months when I first really started complaining about the joint pain and fatigue. That was in 7/2002. The T-3 is supposed to bring your temp up to normal - mine's normally 97.2 - and in doing so all the pain and fatigue is supposed to go away. Unfortunately, mine never got to the normal point and things got progressively worse. But, I do think that I should ask him for the Armour Thyroid. I've heard of that but I don't remember if it's a combination t3 & t4 or just straight t3?? What I was taking before was a specially formulated T3 capsule that you titrate up and down. What do you think?? Guest guest
Patty, I was on the T3 from July 2002 through at least November 2002, maybe December?? I can't remember for sure. My ob-gyn put me on it. One of his patients had told him about something she found on the Internet called 's Thyroid Syndrome (WTS). Dr. feels that if you have " normal " thyroid tests but have a low body temp, adding T3 by titrating up then down and then back up again in several cycles will eventually get your temp back to normal and cure you from everything from FMS, CFS, to hair loss and weight gain - basically every ailment you can imagine including most of the ones we all (with implants) suffer with. This was before I ever imagined I was sick from my implants. You should go to the site - it's: sthyroidsyndrome.com. It's pretty interesting, but unfortunately it didn't work for me. I don't remember how many cycles I was on for sure - maybe 4?? But, I started to get worse instead of better. But, it was definitely worth a shot. Especially if it could have helped me with my brain fog. I remember telling the doctor that I couldn't even do simple math. My brain had just gotten to the point where I couldn't remember how to do anything. I remember making hush puppies. The recipe was Milk, egg, hush puppy mix - mix it up then drop it in the deep fryer. I read the recipe 15 or 20 times and every time I would read it I would forget what it said as soon as I looked away. I tried to do it one word at a time and tried putting one ingredient at a time into the bowl and it took me probably 20 minutes where it would take a " normal " person 2 or 3! I started crying and my husband and my daughter told me " chill out - you're making such a big deal out of nothing! " AAARRRGGHHHH Anyway, my blood work from about a year ago showed T4 Free:1.32 TSH: o.42 T3 total: 90 T3 reverse: 15. Then a month later I went to a different doctor because the pain was just unbearable and I knew my ob-gyn wouldn't give me any pain meds. They ran a test for TSH only and it was .008. They told me to take Synthroid which I already had a script for because it's supposed to be like the " antidote " (sp?) for too much T3. I didn't take it unless I went through a period where my heart would race and I couldn't breathe. Eventually I stopped all of it and sort of gave up. At that point I just wanted to die. It was only by God's grace that I'm still here. I had just met a woman in my church that had Fibromyalgia and she and I hit it off immediately. I joined a small group that she was heading up and we did a series called " 40 days of purpose " . It was so awesome. If I hadn't had that group of women to talk to and to pray with, I think I would have driven my car into a tree. I had NOBODY to talk to before them. Nobody believed me, my ob-gyn was losing his patience with me somewhat. He prayed for me every time I had an appointment but I could just tell he was frustrated. My family was all over me every day -- " just snap out of it " " quit thinking about it you're making it worse " Ever been told that? I feel like smacking them when they say it! Wow, I didn't mean to say all that! Typically it is not given very often, and in fact, my endocrinologist doesn't want me on it. It is getting a bad rap right now in some circles. But my naturopathic MD put me on it and so far, I am doing great. > > The T3 is only part of the whole thyroid hormone spectrum, and low body temperature is one symptom of thyroid deficiency. Typically, thyroid replacement consists of getting mostly T4, with some T3 thrown in. (Armour is T4 and T3) Synthroid is only T4, and is one of the most prescribed pharmaceuticals in America today. T4 converts to T3 in the body--that is why T4 is primarily prescribed. T3 is the most powerful thyroid hormone, but some people have trouble converting the T4 to T3, hence the need for both in some kinds of thyroid treatment. > > It is all very confusing, I know! But the bottom line is that thyroid problems are epidemic in this country, they are often misdiagnosed, underdiagnosed and thyroid patients are many times poorly treated by doctors who don't want to take the time to listen to their patients or understand what they are going through. That comes out in the books on thyroid problems over and over again. > > If you think you have thyroid problems, get your hormone levels checked. Pay attention to the TSH, but also look at Free T3 and Free T4. Also have your anti-TPO Antibodies checked to see if you are dealing with Hashimoto's, autoimmune thyroid disease. And keep in mind that the normal ranges are NOT SET IN STONE. You can be borderline normal and still need thyroid hormones. The only way to know is a trial to see if they help you or not, and finding a doctor willing to help you through this trial is most important. Are you in Virginia Pam? I believe one of the doctors who wrote a great book on thyroid issues is in Virginia....and I think Shomon is in Virginia! She is quite an expert on thyroid issues. > Let us know! > Patty > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Pam > > Sent: Monday, January 12, 2004 5:56 AM > Subject: Re: candida, diarreha...Patty > > > Patty, I've been told I'm border line low??? Guest guest
Patty, that is really weird. Dr. tells dr's and patients that if they get unsteady on the T3 to take the Synthroid and they should feel better within an hour or something like that. Like I said, I only took it once or maybe twice during the whole time I was on the T3. I felt like crap with or without it so I know it wasn't what my body needed. The first set of results I gave you were before starting the T3 and the second was about a month after being on T3. We haven't done " The Purpose Driven Life " as a church, but I think it's the same author, right? 40 Days...was written by Rick Warren and our church is sort of modeled after his church in California. Ours is so open and laid back - I love it! Nothing like what I was brought up in...very boring, very dressy, no pants, no jewelry, no make-up, big hair...you know what I'm talking about!! This is not your mama's church! I wear jeans and a t'shirt all the time. I never feel uncomfortable no matter what I wear. We really reach out to the unchurched in the community. We regularly honor school athletic teams and we've had " biker sunday " two years in a row. The first year there were 25 or so bikes, and this past year there were close to 200. It was literally standing room only. The largest number of attendees ever! There were some scary characters there but they heard that God loved them and some of them accepted Christ and kept coming back! Wow, it is nothing like what church was like when I was growing up. If someone came in with jeans or a short skirt instantly they got the eye and were made to feel like they were out of place. Church should be a place to feel warm and welcome and that's what I like most about my church. It's awesome! I can't wait until Biker Sunday this summer. But we sold our bike a few months ago because I can't ride anymore...but hopefully I will be able to ride again soon. Pam , " Dave & Patty " <fdp3@c...> wrote: > Well, Pam according to your TSH results, (was that after being on the T3?) you were probably okay, probably leaning toward hyperthyroid. It was probably a good thing you stopped the T3. Of course, I am not a doctor so nothing I say means anything here, but there is one thing I know for sure, and that is that T4 is not an antidote for T3! T4 converts to T3, so if anything, you would be adding fuel to the fire. The antidote for T3 (if there is one) is to just stop taking it, as it only lasts about 4 hours in your system in active form. > > I've heard of 's syndrome. I think it is still very controversial, and that is why the whole T3 thing became controversial. > > Fine tuning the thyroid is a pretty complex thing, but the thyroid is so instrumental in so many of our bodily functions that when it is off, it can screw up so many things in our life. The symptoms are many and vary widely from person to person. If you feel good off of all of the meds, then you probably don't need to worry about it, at least for now. Thyroid symptoms vary from season to season and could strike at any time in the future. As many of the authors have written about thyroid issues, hypothyroidism is epidemic in this country...so many people with underactive thyroid that are misdiagnosed, undiagnosed, and undertreated. It is such a shame--I wish it were alot easier! > > By the way, our church did " The Purpose Driven Life " , or a 40 Days of Purpose outreach with everyone meeting in small groups throughout the city. Guest guest
Hi Pam, Your church sounds like a cool church, just like mine! Very relaxed atmosphere, and yet full of worship and honor for the Lord. Rick Warren is the author of "The Purpose Driven Life" and that was the book our church used for the 40 Days of Purpose video study that goes with the book. Our whole church met in small groups around town to do the 40 days study together last year, and I keep hearing of other churches that have done it together. It seems to have taken this country by storm! It is an awesome study, that is for sure! When I went on my mission trip to the Dominican Republic and Haiti in late September, we were encouraged to find a copy of the book in Spanish and take it to leave with our mission friends down there...I did find it at Costco in Spanish, so I was glad I could give them a copy. It is going global! My family is big on motorcycles, since my Dad had a Yamaha dealership when I was growing up. We rode bikes all the time, and went to the Daytona races every March. I learned how to ride a motorcycle before I learned how to drive a car. However, since my husband is a passionate hunter, and not into motorcycles at all, that part of my life is just memories now! My 17 year old son loves motorcycles though, and has dreams of owning one he calls a crotch rocket--(sorry, I hope I didn't offend anyone!) That makes me nervous! But I know he comes by it honestly, thanks to my dad!
