Guest guest
Lori, I know some like the CIS strategy. In this case tho, would it not be worth the effort to adapt to the ones currently supported by the N5 processor and take advantage of its new features such as the remote control? I have my N5's but I hate wearing them since they cant program the CIS into the N5 as of yet. Does anyone have any idea if/when that will happen? I would love to wear my N5s and use the remote and they are so much lighter and more water resistant but they sound terrible compared to my freedoms. (I was implanted in my left ear in 2007 with freedom and then in 2009 in my right ear with the N5 - that is why I have both) Also - I am planning on attending my first concert since becoming a bilateral ci user. It is a hard rock concert. I am planning on seeing my audi before the concert and was wondering if anyone had any tips on program changes, etc to help me at the concert. I know it will be difficult because even with normal hearing which I had for over 30 years...rock concerts are loud and distorted. Thank you! Guest guest
Hi Lori, I KNOW what you're talking about. I prefer SPEAK as a programming strategy, and that, too, is not available on the Nucleus 5 implant. The audiologists will try to tell you that slow ACE is the same as SPEAK, and it is not. And probably told you that fast ACE is the same as CIS, and again, it is not. It's ACE, and it's what is available on the Nucleus 5 right now. I know they will have to make SPEAK available some time down the line because they'll make the N5 processor backwards compatable for the N22 implants, and SPEAK is the only strategy they run. But it is frustrating to go from multiple strategies, as unique as your fingerprint, to one strategy with variations for everyone. I don't hear as well with the N5 as I do with the 14 year old Nucleus 24. And this after 18 months of listening with it. So if anyone is jumping to get a Nucleus 5 upgrade and doesn't use ACE, be aware that you will be mapped with ACE and only ACE on the Nucleus 5.
