Guest guest
, At your next reMAPping at your audilogist's office, ask that new SmartSound2 programming be placed on your processors. There's a new software fix that prevents your pain from happening, a code " H6 " will show up, telling you that you have your processors on the wrong side. Guest guest
Oh great, thanks for letting me know about that! I've already e-mailed my audie and I will ensure that she has the new software at my next session on 20th March. > > > Hi, > > > > I'm just wondering if those bilateral people with Cochlear Freedom > > speech processors can exclusively pair each processor to the internal > > implant? Guest guest
there is a symbol that appears on your processors when you turn them on. It appears on the right side for your right implant and on the left side for your left implant. I also have a sticker (a rose) on my right processor which I put on when I first got my Freedom. It identifies it quickly for me even before I turn it on. Happy Hearing! Guest guest
Hi I have don the very same thing because I prefer to put my processor on before turning it on so I can't see the three lines indicating which is which. I have heard that anyone implanted after this fall has someting that makes it so the wrong processor won't work on the wrong internal device. Since I received my implants prior to this fall I have taken to putting some type of marking on one of them. I had finger nail polish on it for awhile but not I have stickers that my audie gave me--just a small dot on the inside of the processor. Connie rachael4peter <prdavies@...> wrote: Hi, I'm just wondering if those bilateral people with Cochlear Freedom speech processors can exclusively pair each processor to the internal implant? The reason I ask is that a couple of times now, I have put the wrong speech processor on and if it's on my left ear, boy it hurts! I am usually very good about checking before I put the speech processors on, but it would be good if it can be exclusively paired so that the wrong speech processor will not work with that implant. Apparently both AB and Med-El allow this to be done. Guest guest
it is my understanding that not all Freedoms have this special feature. From what I have read/heard it is only people who were implanted after October/November 2007. If I am wrong please someone correct me. Guest guest
Thanks - both my surgeries were done prior to Nov 2007. My audiologist has arranged for a rep from Cochlear to be at my next mapping in 2 weeks so that we can address this issue. So perhaps there might be some sort of way forward. My problem is that while I am usually very good about looking at the indicators on the LED showing which ear it's for, I sometimes just am not thinking clearly or am in a hurry to get my daughter to the school bus and just forget. It has only happened two times but I just think I need an extra barrier to prevent then pain on the times when I lapse, which will happen. > > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > > > I'm just wondering if those bilateral people with Cochlear Freedom > > > > speech processors can exclusively pair each processor to the > internal > > > > implant? Guest guest
You should mention it to the Cochlear Ltd company. It is basically the chip that needs to be unique and is easy to do just as mobile phones has a specific sim card and if the wrong sim card is put in then the mobile phone company will know about it. The best way to get around your problem is perhaps put a small coloured sticker, e.g. blue for left processor and red for right processor. Put the sticker on the processor facing your ear and that way it can't be seen on the outside of the processor. Actually come to think of it it doesn't really matter if you had a coloured sticker or not because if they are on put on the side of the processor facing your ear and you put it on the other ear you'll soon see in the mirror if the sticker is showing on the outside of the processor. I hope this makes sense but alot of bilateral users tend to do this irrespective of what make they have but I don't need to do that because mine is AB. Guest guest
Hi have two freedoms and I am bilateral. There is no problem knowing which is for which ear there is a = mark shown in the processor window. If it's on the left side it will show on the left side = mark for right side also. It will show right when you turn on the processor which one you have turned on. hope that helps the confusion for ya. Guest guest
just get one of your kids' stickers and put it on one processor on the side that is next to your head and then you will always know which side that one goes on. I have been doing this and the only problem I have it that it does come off after a few weeks because of being in the dry and store. I too am being mapped on the 26th of this month with a Cochlear rep present so I will ask also. Connie rachael4peter <prdavies@...> wrote: Thanks - both my surgeries were done prior to Nov 2007. Guest guest
The Freedom processor has a signal that shows if it's for the left or the right ear. So even if you upgrade to the Freedom for a 3G (which I have), it shows you which ear the processor goes on. If you are using the 3G processor on one ear and the Freedom on the other, they look different enough to tell them apart by sight. Its my understanding that this only works if you have the latest freedom implant on both sides. but does not work if you have an older 3g with the older style implant..... Guest guest
Hi Hope you didn't get all the snow we got in southern Ohio--but then you are more used to it than we are. I think the issue here is that people want the processor to not work if it is put on the wrong ear. The code on the controller has been mentioned but I like many others prefer putting the processors on before I turn them on and thus they can easily get mixed up. Apparently with some of the newer internal devices there is something in the chip that cuts the processor off if you have it on the wrong ear. Guest guest
My audie put mole skin on the sides of my processors facing my head so I would know which CI goes on which ear.

Guest guest
Got all the snow you did and more. Over 3 ft in places in my driveway. Sure glad I didn't have to go anywhere this weekend. Except to take the dog in to get deskunked. Some rotten skunk sprayed her on Thursday, so had to take her for unskunking on Friday. But got that all taken care of before the big chunks of snow started falling. Have good neighbors who use huge snowblowers to clean my driveway. Next time I'm out and about I need to buy some beer for them. I'm unilateral, so was only passing on that the processor shows a mark for which side it goes on. Seems if you get fried doing it wrong, it would be worth looking at ONE of the processors and turning it on before putting it on to make sure.
