Guest guest
Hello Alice As you know, my own processor and controller are away at Cochlear Aust. We obviously dont get the same service from Cochlear Australia as you get from Cochlear in the USA, because I have been told by The Mater hospital (where I had my implant done) it would be FOUR WEEKS until I get mine back. The bulb is OK in the Dry and Store, and the D & S is only a few months old, as my other one carked it just a few days after its 12 month anniversary, they sent me another new one. I have just put a new brick in the Dry & Store. That is a possible cause of my problems. I would like to think its something as simple as that, even though I would be a clown for not checking the brick more closely and more often. If they werent drying out properly in the Dry & Store, it could explain why I am having problems with the loaner too, but I got problems with the loaner after a few days of getting it. Thanks for your input, Alice. It could be an answer. Guest guest
As a follow up to this other post: I wanted to do something this morning that I knew would make me sweat, cutting the grass always makes me sweat. So, I purposely wore my CI knowing that it had just been in the Dry & Store for over 12 hours straight and it still packed up as soon as I started to sweat, which was after about 10 minutes, my hearing aid never missed a beat again. Now the Dry & Store has got a brand new Brik in it, the bulb and motor are working, so presumably its working OK, which puts it back to the processor/controller. In a way, I'm glad it went off this time, because I would have felt such a clown if the Dry & Store Brik had have proved to be the problem, I know now that it wasn't. I know that the Dry & Store has a certain time cycle and it turns itself off after that time, no matter how long you leave it in there for. So, the mystery of this water resistant, sweat resistant processor/controller continues. Guest guest
Ted, At the risk of labouring the point, hook the d****d thing up to your bodyworn, and try it out. If it doesent die on you when you sweat, then the fault has to be the controller or battery arrangement david > > > > > > I am just checking into this link and I have a > suggestion. > > > Hopefully, I haven't missed this from someone else. > > > > > > Since you are dealing with a moisture problem when you should > not > > > be - it's possible that your processor has a defect in that > area. > > > Defects can happen in anything as you know. Guest guest
Hello Alice and who also asked me I was just about to write something about it, when I saw your message. I received my processor back from Cochlear yesterday (it took 4 WEEKS) and they have REPLACED it and the controller with a NEW ONE. Its still early morning here in Oz, so I havent worn the new one yet. When I send this loaner back, I will enclose a note with it, saying that IMO it would be unreliable for anyone else to use, until it has been checked out, because I have had the EXACT SAME problems with this one too, in hot sweaty conditions. There was nothing in the letter that came back with my processor and controller to indicate what they had found, but it was IMO undoubtedly a moisture/sweat issue. So if anyone else lives in the same kind of climate as we get in SE Queensland Oz, it maybe something to watch out for. I hope that this has now solved the problem and the dilemma is whether I should test it out, by purposely doing something that I know will cause me to sweat heavily, or err on the side of rationality and get around to charging up the batteries for the body worn and trying that out too. What is the feelings of the group on this, should I put it under pressure to see if it gives way again, or use the body worn and stay guessing? Guest guest
Hi Ted ! IMO, you should give it the same hot, sweaty trial as you did with the loaner, otherwise you will not know if the problem is fxed. So get out there and cut the grass (while I am up here shoveling the white stuff). Regards, Jim S > > > > Hi Ted, > > > > Just wondering if you have solved the moisture problems with your > > processors? Guest guest
Thanks for your input, Jim. Guest guest
Hi Ted, I'm going to answer for Alice here. Freedom is the only implant on the market that has 4 slots, and Alice mentioned CIS on 2 and ACE on 2. ACE is unique to Cochlear products, so being the sleuth that I am, I can say with lots of certainty that Alice got the Freedom. Sometimes you just have to read between the lines!! Thanks for the update. I'm sorry that you havent healed properly yet, but very pleased that you can hear OK with the new CI. Did you get the Freedom with this re-implant?
