I happy to hear of you success, Bev.

My longitudinal myotomy gave me a great outlook

and life. It renewed my life! The very first thing I did after I was allowed anything

by mouth was to drink a glass a water without stopping!!

It was wonderful. It all went down. Good luck to you.

I just got back from a weekend in Houston and I was able to eat normally without the worry of choking. What a relief! I must have had a wonderful doctor. Yesterday, while driving the car, I was eating raw baby carrots for the first time. It was great.I will be celebrating my 66th. birthday at the end of this month and I feel I have already been given a wonderful gift. The gift of being able to eat salads, which I love so much. I have not gained more than a couple pounds, but since I was overweight by twenty pounds, I am happy about this.I was never able to drink wine with a meal because it would make the food more difficult to go down. I had a glass on Sat.with cheese and I did fine. No problem. I am not much of a drinker, but do enjoy a glass of wine now and then at a party. It was so nice to be able to enjoy it without fear of my throat closing up.I just can't say enough about having made the decision to have my surgery as I feel so much better. The only thing that happened is I was radomly picked at the airport for search and the wand went off near my incisions. The lady thought I had a belt on and I told her I had surgery two months ago and must still have metal in the area. It was funny. I do feel something there, but it doesn't hurt. My spasms are gone now. What a relief! I hated that. I know that I will never eat the way I used to, but that is good. I do not eat deep fried foods now.I hope this has been of some help to you all. I wish for all of you the very best. I feel so bad for the children that have this disease. It is bad enough for adults to have it, but at least we can deal with it better. My best to you all. I can relate to you, kathiode@... !!!  When I get to drink straight down, it is

like wanting to shout HALLELUJAH !!!  I

can’t always do it, I get air pockets or something which don’t let the water go

straight down.  I have to stop and wait

for the bubble to go down, but when you can swallow mouthful after mouthful without

stopping, BOY, it is exciting.

surgery update

Ok, just a quick update. They FINALLY got my insurance company to approveboth of the procedures. Now the only problem is that insurance wants tokick me out of the hospital with a 24" long incision after only 24 hours. My doctor said he will call them for more time, and I am praying that theinsurance is cooperative. Thank you all for your encouragement and prayers! In case I don't make it back to the computer, I hope everyone has awonderful Thanksgiving. Enjoy good food, but focus on the blessing offamily and make decisions that will let you enjoy them for a long time tocome! I personally have vowed NO macaroni and cheese (those who know mewell will realize the heartfelt sacrifice I am making here <GBG>) LOLCherilyn

Glad to hear that the sugury went well. I hope it helps you.

Be sure to give yourself enough time to recoup, wash your hands lots

to help avoid hubbies cold, and remember...Mom's Chicken Noodle Soup

is NEVER unauthorized...just have some moderation.

Be well,

Surgery Update

Hello everyone...

I just wanted to give an update on my surgery I had today. It was an

outpatient, so I am home now and strangely wide awake. However, I'm sure that

once the Percocet I just took kicks in, I'll be OUT. Everything went fine, it

was a two and a half hour surgery, and I was awake in and out during the

procedure so that I could tell the neurosurgeon where I felt the implant, etc.

Anyway, I'll spare the boring and gross details of the surgery.

A couple of things...Again, THANK YOU to everyone who gave me some great

ideas for meals, etc during my recovery time. And THANK YOU for the kind words

of encouragement. Sunday, I prepared some meals in advance...turkey chili,

whole wheat pasta salad, tons of boiled eggs, etc. However, I was rudely

interrupted by the stupid pain monster. So I did not get everything done as I

had hoped. My husband has come down with a cold and coughy throat. So we now

have two sickly's in our house...the only two that are here might I add!

HOWEVER, my wonderful mother is coming to the rescue and will be here during the

daytime to watch over me (and potentially my sickly husband). Yesterday, I gave

her the rundown on our meals, etc. And, I also gave her BFL and EFL to read

again. I think she just might get inspired during this time for herself!

One thing that is a stinker...I couldn't eat anything after midnight before

the surgery...and I did not get out of surgery until 4:40 PM!! I was FAMISHED!

Do those surgeons and hospitals not understand that I'm doing BFL?? LOL. So I

cheated. For some reason after every surgery, I crave SONIC. I had a big

cheeseburger and tator tots and a big diet coke. I was soooooo sick afterwards!

I'm not going to beat myself up over it...but it's truly amazing how that kinda

food in the past never made me so sick feeling...now it's just gross how I feel

afterwards. Maybe it wouldn't have been so bad if I did the palm/fist portion,

but that was NOT an option for me! I wanted it ALL! ICK! I have my plan for

the remainder of the week, and have planned one unauthorized meal for tomorrow

afternoon..my mom's homemade chicken noodle soup. It's the best comfort food

when I'm sick and/or recovering from a surgery. But I will definitely stick to

the correct portion and enjoy it in moderation

this time!

Another thing...this go-around with the surgery, I didn't mind my butt

hanging out for all to see in those nasty hospital gowns! I still have a LONG

way to go, but I am definitely more comfortable in my own skin now!

I've kinda lost track as far as where I am at specifically in this challenge

since I've started slacking on my exercising the past few weeks before the

surgery. However, I'm giving myself two weeks to fully recover. And at that

point, I'm going to officially start a challenge and stick to it 100%. I'll

post my updates and stats throughout it to keep myself honest.

Sorry for the lengthy update. I think my medicine or something is making me

" talky " . Thank you to everyone for your encouragement and excellent emails to

keep me on track!

Hi everyone. Well I am just exhausted. did awesome. The surgery was a

long one, like 5.5 hours. She did excellent. She came through fine. Family is

breathing a sigh of relief. Thank you to everyone who kept us in your prayers.

She will be in the hospital for 5-7 days. Sorry to be so brief but I am heading

to bed after drinking a celebratory glass of wine. Will write more soon....

Glad that your surgery went well and that your headaches are at least better

now. I hope that they will continue to improve as you are healing.

Sorry about the RSD getting worse. It is easy to get depressed when this pain

goes on and on! Hang in there.

surgery update

I just wanted to update everyone about my recent surgery I had on Dec.

17th. It was to repair the spinal leaks I've had for 2 years after my

stim was revised. I had my stim removed as well since they were going

to have to remove it anyway to fix the leaks. It had also migrated and

was not in the correct position. My headaches are better but not gone.

I've had an increase in RSD pain in my left arm. I've also been

experiencing RSD symptoms in my feet and I developed an allergic

reaction to the surgical tape. I've been home for a while now. I don't

regret having my stim taken out because it never worked for very long

and I have had so many complications with it. I have been somewhat

depressed since being home because of the extra complications and pain.

I will be going back next Tuesday, the 6th for my follow-up with my

surgeon. Thanks and I enjoy being a part of this group.

Hi, My husband Don had surgery yesterday with Neuleus 5. He is doing quite well.

The only thing is he didn't sleep well last night due to heart beat sounds in

his head. Has anyone else had this and how long does it last post surgery. He

goes for follow up in 3 weeks and then activated 3 weeks after that. All in all

the hospital experience went well. Anyone in the Sacramento area? would be

interested in talking or getting together with you.
