Guest guest
COME TO STURBRIDGE !!! IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO REGISTER, AND THERE IS STILL ROOM IN THE CHILDREN’S PROGRAM! NORTHEAST COCHLEAR IMPLANT CONVENTION Friday-Sunday, July 8-10, 2011 Sturbridge Host Hotel & Convention Center Sturbridge, Massachusetts We warmly invite you to attend the Eighth Biennial Northeast Cochlear Implant Convention in Sturbridge, MA. The " Sturbridge " convention is a unique opportunity for CI users, their families, clinicians and educators to network and learn together in a casual, supportive, inclusive environment, while children participate in a fun-filled Children's Program. The theme of this Convention, Connections!, explores the many ways cochlear implant users connect to technology, to each other, and to the world around them. Visit http://www.neci2011.neciconvention.org and see the rich array of offerings by world-class speakers for everyone from parents of infants to young adult CI users to retirees, and from early intervention providers to college administrators. The Friday workshop, co-sponsored by Children's Hospital Boston, is called Links and Ladders to Support Listening for Learning. If you are a clinician or educator, you will magnify your understanding of auditory learning supports to help both implant and hearing aid users. If you are the parent of a child with a cochlear implant, please urge your child's educators and therapists to visit http://www.neci2011.neciconvention.org , as they may wish to attend the Friday session. They may decide to stay for Saturday and Sunday as well, so as not to miss out on great sessions that will help your child! (ASHA and AAA CEUs are pending; Certificates of Attendance will be provided.) CI users should visit the Try It Out room to explore various ways to couple their processors to cell phones, MP3 players, etc. The Saturday keynote address will be given by Curtis Pride, Deaf Major League Baseball Player for many seasons and now Head Baseball Coach at Gallaudet University. Curtis will offer his inspirational story of growing up deaf and, in 1996, becoming the first full-season deaf player in the modern era of Major League Baseball. He has a daughter who uses cochlear implants. His positive message on overcoming challenges will inspire us. The Saturday banquet speaker is another fine deaf athlete, Artinian, who is now college-bound and who is remembered as the little girl in Sound and Fury who wanted an implant. Her speech is cleverly titled " Switched at 9. " Please register quickly! Registration on our Web site, http://www.neci2011.neciconvention.org . In the past many Saturday and Sunday attendees have told us that it was very valuable to come to the Friday evening festivities. Then they were well acquainted, registered and oriented for Saturday morning, and didn't miss out on the fun! We'll look forward to seeing you in Sturbridge!
