Guest guest
If I may, I would like to expand upon what has written in that each of us can have a different combo and not every audiologist refers to the programs as Noise, Whisper, and Music. It does help if you become familiar with the recommended environment the program is designed to be most helpful. I have only had the SmartSound 2.0 for two weeks and find them to be a great improvement. Mine are: P-1: ADRO P-2: ADRO+ASC P-3: ADRO+ASC+BEAM P-4: ADRO+Whisper Using 's terms, P-1 is my everyday, P-2 is my noise program but so is P-3, but for especially loud places and P-4 is one I use with Music but other times as well. If you happen to be bilateral, I encourage you to also experiment with different combo's on each side. Example: I have one side on P-2 and the other at P-3 and see if it makes a difference. Switch sides with the combo. This is really amazing.........how experimenting can make a difference. I do the same with P-1 and P-4. If you are like me and have one ear that does a little better in noise or quiet than the other, all the more reason to experiment with the combos as I suggested. Just wanted to throw in my experience with SS2.0 .......and to share what I have been learning. Warmly, Carol in WI Re: The programming levels of the CI's Posted by: " " rclark0276@... prince_rogue2001 Date: Mon Jul 28, 2008 7:12 pm ((PDT)) And I forgot to mention that there is now Smart Sounds 2 which offers a mix of the basic smart sounds. So its important to know what your audi is giving you. The SS2 programs are Everyday, Noise, Whisper, and Music.
Guest guest
Hi Carol, Glad to hear you got the SoundSuite 2 put on and like it. What a huge improvement for me! I personally have slot 4 as telecoil, since I can hear and understand music on any of the channels. Thanks for adding to our store of knowledge. Guest guest
True, I like the dedicated program because I don't have to take the processor off my ear to set it into telecoil, just go quickly through the " beeps " . Additionally I have mine set on to be 100% telecoil on program 4 so I don't have outside sound coming in like I do with the telecoil in the other programs (set at 75/25). That way I can quickly check if a room I am in (for a meeting, a movie etc) is looped without taking the processor off and fiddling with it while totally deaf. Guest guest
Ok, thank you all for your replies. Now, which level would you suggest for when you're by yourself in your home in a quiet environment, watching TV and so forth ? Thanks ! Guest guest
This may be true if Tele coil is near the current program you are on, but to me it will take longer to go through the other programs to get to Tele coil than simply to press the Tele coil itself. Guest guest
Ted, Let me reassure you there are NO stupid questions. I'm a lazy girl, and rather than holding down both sides to switch to telecoil, I just bop through the programs to get to the telecoil. It's actually faster that way. And since my audiologist, who happens to work for Cochlear now, but who was my first audi when I was implanted 12 years ago, knows how lazy I am, and how well I can hear music, speech, and everything else on any of the programs, just set one for telecoil. Put it on last December, and it's great. I have my first program with ADRO set very low, like V and S at 2, and use it around the house where I don't have to hear much of anything. I can hear the doorbells, phone ringing, dog howling, but don't have to listen to the background noises like traffic up the street, lawnmowers, and all the other noisy stuff the neighbors use to keep their yards looking good (which happens when I'm on V 6 and Sens 9, etc). Program 2, is ADRO and ASC and I have the V & S set higher there, and use it when I'm working with people and need to hear them better on the first try. Program 3, which is ADRO, ASC and BEAM, I use in noisy restaurants and places like that. And 4 is 25% regular and 75% telecoil, and I use it on the phone. All work well for me, and I listen to music on any of them. Is it as cold downunder and it is HOT uptop? 81 degrees today, and warmer tomorrow. My Siberian husky is lolling in grass with a breeze blowing on her. Had her coat brushed out, so no more undercoat, bath, ears cleaned, nails trimmed and she came home with a gingham bandana on. Prettiest pooch on the street. BTW, Gardening hint. If you don't fertilize your lawn, or water it, you don't have to mow it nearly as often. People around here spend hours and dollars on lawns. Mine gets cut every 3 or 4 weeks. I don't even worry about it dying out, since grass will grow in the cracks in sidewalks without my doing anything, and it is a perennial. Just ignore it and it becomes VERY low maintenance. Thu Jul 31, 2008 8:21 pm (PDT) Hello Pardon me if this is a stupid question, but why would you use one programme slot just for telecoil? Guest guest
I agree with . It takes a second before you can switch to the next program. You can't just quickly press the button 4 times to get to slot 4. You have to press, pause and wait for the beep, press, pause, wait for the beep, etc. That takes too long when you're trying to hear the person on the phone. I just quickly reach up and hold both buttons down without taking the processor off and switch it over to T-coil. It's quick and I don't have to wait for the processor to switch to a new program. Guest guest
Thanks for the explanation, . As for the weather, we are in the last month of Winter here, but it doesn't get cold enough, where I am, to need a fire. About 7 or 8 degrees C at night and about 21C in the day time. I thought the first things that dogs did after they had had a bath, was to roll in something...........to improve their smell :-) Ted F. > > Ted, > Let me reassure you there are NO stupid questions. Guest guest
, that's amazing. You really have it down pat after 12 years I like the 75/25 t-coil too, especially since I can hear my own voice. Right now, as I've said, I'm in a study where I'm being mapped by voice rather than beeps, so I'm a little mixed up at the moment. However, once done, I hope to have a dedicated t-coil slot. So many choices, so little time! Judy in Jax > > Ted, > Let me reassure you there are NO stupid questions. Guest guest
Is there really that big of a difference between the T switch and not for using a phone? I think I tried a T switch with a regular hearing aid about 20 years ago and didn't like it. I've found I hear just fine on my cell phone without it. Y'all have got me wondering. Guest guest
Indeed, after 12 years, I know what I want to hear and what I don't. I loved being able to turn the processor OFF when I was babysitting some positively horrid children who were screaming at the top of their lungs and kicking their headboards at the same time. 45 minutes of this. I turned the processor down and down and finally OFF and sat between their rooms reading a book. Babysitter from Hell, that's me. They could NOT believe I didn't lose my mind from the noise. Noise? WHAT noise? LOL. I get incredible battery life, too, by not listening to what I don't need or want to hear. Better so many choice, so little time than the other way around. So much time, so few choices. , that's amazing. You really have it down pat after 12 years I like the 75/25 t-coil too, especially since I can hear my own voice. Guest guest
Harriet, I cant help with your question but you need to chnage the subject when you write an email. Also, its a bad idea to include your mailing address etc in emails for all to see. Since this is not related to the CI, its not really on topic. But have you discussed with your doctor?
