Guest guest
While watching and struggling to hear the debate last night with my hearing aids I became curious if y'all can understand what is on TV? Can you look away and and not miss what is said. Can you again read and watch TV to get the high points of a program? It is one of my hopes if I can get my implant. in Ft. Guest guest
I wear a ha and one implant, a 12 year old Clarion 1.2 by Advanced Bionics. I heard the debate fine, but I paid attention (I don't look away and still comprehend, I don't think). I can hear the news pretty well, too. Guest guest
I can hear and understand much of what is said but if I don't want to miss any of it I have to use the captions. If I'm satisfied to just get most of it I can ignore the captions. Here, on HDTV, captions suck anyway. They're usually so far behind speech that there's no way to hear and read. both. A few times they preceded the speech! So mostly I listened to the debate, now and then referring to the captions for verification. Guest guest
Rhonda, It was the most exciting thing for me after my implant. I was turned on in October and the first movie I went to was in December. I was so excited that I could understand probably 90% of the words and could tell a person what the movie was about. It was a kids movie, I can't remember which one, not animated though. I have a little harder time in action movies, but still know what's going on. Better than TV, and I'm sure that's do the volume and surround sound! It was awesome for me because I had stopped going to movies!! Guest guest
Can any of you not look at the TV and still follow the debate for a period of time, say long enough to go into the kitchen and get yourself something to drink, etc.? I can watch and follow, but not follow the conversation from the room next to the TV. My husband told me that he can go into the kitchen which is off the family room, and still follow the conversation. That's what I'd like to know, if anyone is hearing well enough to do something like that? Guest guest
On a very few occasions I've been able to do that. Again, the conditions have to be just right. Just talking on the TV, no fans, a/c, furnace running. Basically a really quiet environment, just the TV on with talking and very little else. Guest guest
Yes, I can do that but not all the time. The volume of the TV has to be nice and high and there can't be much traffic noise from the street. Being bilateral has made it much easier. In a message dated 10/3/2008 9:10:27 P.M. Guest guest
Not me-- I want a TV in every room of the house.
