I can certainly identify with your tinnitus problem and know that it

can be extremely difficult to cope with on a day to day basis. I'm

sorry that you are dealing with it right now as it seems that you've

been suffering with a great deal since your second CI surgery.

Tinnitus is a major problem for those of us with any degree of

hearing loss. As far as I know, there is no cure for it now but

sometimes we do things to ourselves to make it worse. Foods we

consume or medications we take can make the annoyance increase. I've

copied a link for you to read and maybe you can find some relief by

eliminating some foods or meds you are consuming

I know personally that caffeine products can make mine worse and that

includes my favorite thing which is chocolate. I also know that

taking ibuprophen products or asprin products can make my head feel

like it's roaring off my shoulders. Stress or anger is a huge problem

for me when it comes to tinnitus. I also know that when I think about

it, it seems to get worse so trying to keep my mind off of it - as

hard as that may be - is helpful for me.

Well - here's the article for you to read if you are interested. I

sincerely hope that you can find relief very soon as I know that it's

hard to live with. Good Luck!

I started doing searches about Ototoxity and Drugs, after reading your

post, Alice. I wanted to see if any of my medications were on the list.

I came across this:

http://deafness.about.com/od/ototoxicity/a/ototoxic.htm

" The League for Hard of Hearing has a detailed PDF brochure, " Ototoxic

Medications: Drugs That Can Cause Hearing Loss and Tinnitus " on its

website. This brochure has a lengthy list of ototixic medications,

organized by category. "

Hi, All -

There is a short article in the September 22 issue of " First " magazine

about tinnitus. It isn't too detailed and I couldn't find it on line. So

here are the main points. It talks about tinnitus also being caused by a

shortfall of magnesium in the body. Stress is a part of this. It suggests 500

mg

of magnesium by eating foods like edamine, sunflower seeds and almonds. It

also suggests using 40 mg daily of a ginkgo-leaf extract that contains 24

percent flavonol glycerides. There is an acupressure point called triple warmer

21

- usng index fingers, find the depression in front of each ear (at the jaw's

hinges), then apply pressure for 30 seconds and release. Repeat 3 times daily.

I don't do any of these, but you might want to try them. Hope this helps.
