Guest guest
That's what everyone told me, I went in for a new map and the audi did all the test and said I didn't need one. So that confused me. I've been involved with a research project and the audi I'm working with said my hearing and speech comprehension is well above most. But I just don't feel like I hear like I did during the first 6 months. Guest guest
Nina - it's possible that your brain has adjusted and is comfortable and now weeding out the sounds you heard in the beginning that weren't important. I've had that experience before with my first implant and much quicker with my second implant and only into my 3rd month as BICI. I thought I was losing hearing, but I wasn't infact I was improving, while we do living in a noisy world. I think we are learning to tune out the things that are not important (like hearing people do). I have noiced things to become more quieter, but I am still hearing. I wonser if that is what's happening with you? The Cat addicted to hearing, Meow!!! ~ Kitty S. - Chicago, IL ~

You know Kitty, I'm not sure. An example, we went out to dinner the 3rd day after being turned on. We went to The Hard Rock Cafe I could totally hear my husband, perfectly and I was so excited. Now I can't hear in restaurants hardly at all. I have to really strain and rely on lip-reading. I went to the movies 2 months after being turned on and understand at least 80% of the words, enjoyed the movie. Have since been and can't understand the movies at all. The last one being on Christmas Day. I've decided that I can't go to movies. I could talk on the phone, perfectly, now, I'm finding that on important called I use my Cap/Tel phone. AI didn't before. So I'm not sure and I've asked several people, they don't know what's up. My audi thinks it may by physiological. I did get the Smart Sounds 2, but that was June this year and my problem started in March/April We thought we'd try to see if it helped. But I haven't noticed a difference at all. I can hear perfectly with very little difficulty in quiet. It's almost as if my brain did the opposite, it weeded out the noise in the beginning and now it's not. Does that make sense? Anyway, I was really hoping that I could find someone in the same predicament as me.
Guest guest
I would be inclined to ask for a mapping with a different audiologist, Nina. It must be very annoying to be told that you are hearing better, when you KNOW you are not. I had my last mapping on a portable notebook PC, this was when I was given the new SS2 programmes. I am wondering whether I should go and get mapped with the software in the audi's office. I also reckon that I don't hear as well as I did. You explained it good in another post, trouble hearing in noise, whereas you used to hear OK. More difficult hearing on the phone etc. Ted F. > > > >> Lately I have been > >> noticing that when people are talking behind me I can't hear them. > >> This is really > >> upsetting me, because I have been hearing people behind me from > >> almost the > >> beginning. Guest guest
If your audiologist thinks you're hearing " just fine " and that it's psychological, time to switch to another audiologist who LISTENS TO YOU. You know what you hear and don't hear, how you heard before, and how you are hearing now. You don't need someone telling you that you're imagining it. There is only ONE you, there are many, many audiologists. denise Now I can't hear in restaurants hardly at all. I have to really strain and rely on lip-reading. Sorry, no you misunderstood, not psychological, but physiological, meaning, characteristic of or appropriate to an organism's healthy or normal functioning. So something within my body's normal function. I've thought maybe it might have something to do with my tinnitus. That's why I was interested in seeing if anyone has experienced this happening. My tinnitus has not gone away, and seems to have evolved. I'm experiencing new tinnitus sounds. hmmm. Anyway, I've been wanting to thank everyone who has responded to this and any future respondees. , you are absolutely right, I don't need someone telling me how I'm hearing now compared to before, or that I'm imaging it. My audi has not made me feel that way, if she did, I would definitely change. I've met several of her patients in my support group and they all love her, and thinks she's really good, so it's just all confusing to me!
