SOUTHEAST FLORIDA COCHLEAR IMPLANT SUPPORT GROUP

SUNDAY January 11, 2009

TIME: 2-4 PM

PLACE: Boca Raton Community Hospital - Education Center

Real time Captioning will be provided and is sponsored for this presentation by

MedEl Corporation.

Our speaker for this meeting is Virgi Mills who comes to us from Gainesville. A

bi-lateral cochlear implant user, Virgi is a member of the MED-EL Patient

Support Team and has shared her experiences on cochlear-implant use and

conducted presentations on rehabilitation for hearing-loss support groups. Her

talk this month will be informative to all CI users no matter which device you

have as well as those who are contemplating getting a cochlear implant.

Virgi Mills holds a Master's degree in Education of the Deaf (M.E.D.) from

College/e School for the Deaf, recognized as one of the nation's premier

auditory-oral programs. Presently, as a teacher in Alachua County Public

Schools, she teaches Listening and Spoken Language for children with cochlear

implants and hearing aids. She started a support group in 2004 in Orlando for

cochlear implant users, including hearing parents of children who experience

hearing loss. Virgi and her husband have two sons ages 24 and 21.

Virgi is a bilateral MedEl user.

Please join us for this informative presentation.

Please bring a snack to share. Soft drinks and coffee will be provided.

Also, if you haven't yet done so please bring a check for $25 for this year's

dues.

We rely on your dues to be able to provide captioning for our meetings when we

don't have a speaker.

We look forward to seeing our " regular members " as well as meeting new people

who are interested in learning more about cochlear implants. Everyone is

welcome. Please come early to socialize.

We hope you will encourage friends and family to attend our meetings with you.

Personal support systems can add much to our success of adjusting to our hearing

loss and the cochlear implant.

Directions to BRCH Education Center:

Take I-95 to Glades Road East. Stay on the right. Pass FAU (on the left)

until you see the HOSPITAL sign. Make that right and follow the road up to the

hospital. Continue on the same road until you see EMERGENCY. Make a left there

and the Education Center is on your right.
