OT - terrier like attitude

Gosh Ted, I think that was a compliment. My " terrier like attitude " .

The problem with most people is they take flack from people, and complain

about it, but not to the person who can do anything about it. Me, I

complain to everyone, and keep going up the chain of command until I get

the answer I need.

One time I got a ticket for having tires on my tree lawn for the garbage

collectors to pick up. Not knowing that tires are one they they NEVER

pick up. Well they didn't take them the first week, so I left them

there, thinking they ran out of space (lol), and when they didn't take

them the 2nd week, I got a ticket. $65. So I go down to the court house

and tell them I have a hearing problem and am going to need some " special

accommodations " for the hearing about the $65 ticket " Special

accommodations are guaranteed under the Americans With Disabilities Act

(ADA) Most people will just pay the fine and complain to whoever will

listen. I figure for $65 I'm going to have my day in court and get my

money's worth. Because you pay court costs, too, whether you go or not.

OK, I tell the clerk of courts that I'm going to need someone to type out

what is being said so I can read it, because 98% comprehension is NOT

enough in a court of law. He tells me, " we don't do that " At this point

most DEAF people would say, " Oh, I'm sorry, what was I thinking " Not I.

I said, " Are you telling me that in a court of law, you do not provide

the accommodations dictated by the law of the land? " Clerk replies,

" Let me check " . Then he comes back and says they'll hire a sign language

interpreter for me. I tell him I don't sign. Well how do I understand

what he is saying. I tell him, " I'm reading your lips " . " OH, we'll hire

a sign language interpreter, who will repeat what is being said. Will

that satisfy you? " Sure. The day before my court appearance, I get a

phone call that the case has been dropped. Seems they found out that an

interpreter gets something like $75/hr and you have to guarantee them 3

hours of time, so the ticket was less than the accommodation, and they

dropped the case. Of course if they had refused to accommodate me, I

would have gone to court, been found guilty, and then turned around and

sued they butts for violation of my civil rights. See, you have to KNOW

your rights and DEMAND them. I'm not a woman to be trifled with.

Moral of this long winded story is KNOW your right, REQUEST them, and if

they are denied, see a lawyer. Happy Holidays.

PS I AM great fun to be with. Ask anyone. Alice, Mischelle, anyone on

the list!!
