Guest guest
Judy, First of all, I have been told that the rights of DHH suck. So, I hope that this video will be beneficial to the hospital staff and the DHH community. Secondly, I think the state should help with paying for the video... From: judy40@... Date: Tue, 23 Dec 2008 16:07:59 +0000 Subject: Hospital and the DHH I am a member of the Florida Coordinating Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and thought you all might be interested in this subject. Last year our Council, in conjunction with the Florida Hospital Association, prepared a video to instruct hospital staff how to interact with deaf and hard of hearing. There is also a guide called, " Effective Communication: The Why and the How… Hospital Compliance with ADA for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. " It's rather expensive, but hopefully the price will come down when the initial outlay is paid off. All the hospitals in the Association have received copies. Several members have taken the video " on the road " to facilitate meetings with staff. http://www.fccdhh.org/med_access_task_force#video Judy in Jax _________________________________________________________________ Life on your PC is safer, easier, and more enjoyable with Windows Vista®. http://clk.atdmt.com/MRT/go/127032870/direct/01/
Guest guest
I hope you enjoyed the video, . We know very well that ADA laws don't work unless we challenge those who don't follow them. All I can say regarding the state paying though, is lots of luck. Florida is going broke like many others and cutting back right and left. We have to use our ingenuity for something like this. Guest guest
Hi , Unfortunately there ARE priorities on who gets the money. Number one is military. I once saw a poster that said, " Wouldn't it be great if the Air Force had to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber, and school children got the textbooks they needed.? " Don't know who sets the priorities, but notoriously the disabled are way low on everyone list, especially people with a silent disability like deafness. We aren't in wheelchairs, or missing limbs, so people think there is nothing wrong with us. Yes the economy is bad right now, but I think there should be some priorities to who should get the funds, etc. ____________________________________________________________ Be there without being there. Guest guest
Good , Because that is exactly what you have to do. Battle by battle. Choose your battles wisely, or you'll be fighting all the time. Once you know your rights, insist upon having them. As for how our money is being spent. If you can vote, do so. If you can vote and don't, then don't blame the people who get selected. - Thats another reason why the economy sucks... IMO Bush spent too much money on the military over the last 8 years but I know that is not the only one factor to the decline in the economy. Also I think the government has been making the wrong priorities for the last several years.... Many years ago, I heard that drug addicts easily could take government's mony to drug themselves. But perhaps that changed now. And, it is up to each individual to fight for their rights and deafness... I don't tolerate how the people who are disabled are being treated so I am taking a stand for them so the government could recognize that deafness also causes some sort of struggle for others. ____________________________________________________________ Find your soul mate.
