Guest guest
I am wondering whether some people might have thought she was perhaps a bit hyper and on too much medication. Her adrenals must have been working hard too, as it must be scary being on TV for the first time. However, I think if I could feel so well after being so ill for years I too would be euphoric and evangelistic, two conditions which show an abundance of enthusiasm. I still don't fully understand why my body cannot convert the T4 properly but I guess it is an enzyme problem and might be to do with the fact I had mercury poisoning for years. I am sure Armour or Nature thyroid is the way to go, 2 grains of Armour is fine for me as long as I take the Pred and I also find that 25 mcg thyroxine is needed. Its a shame its just so complicated for so many of us and our doctors are pretty ignorant too, at least the NHS ones seem to be with a few exceptions maybe. Guest guest
Hi I think everyone is an individual where treatment goes. Last year I was on mobility and could hardly walk the day of the wheelchair I knew was just around the corner and I was thinking of early retirement. Today I was at the gym and have lost well over 4 stone since my treatment. I was giving the exercise bike some welly and went out sweating like mad with hair stuck to my head and smiling like mad! I too had long standing under active thyroid it all started when I was about 28/9 and now I am well about 50 won't admit to more. The doctor even said three years ago if you don't stop smoking (which I admit to) you will be dead in 5 years and put all my breathing problems, chest infections, down to COPD. Funny since I started on thyroxine I have had no further breathing problems and am now getting my lungs working again. I am only on thyroxine a dose of 150 but the difference it has made to my life is unbelievable. And if it was not for this site I would not be on that! Guest guest
Hiya I was just so happy for her that she was so perky, but I was doubting she was on thyroxine alone with nothing for adrenals and no T3 after all those years of her body struggling. It was just that no mention of the kind of treatment (away from the NHS norm because she went private) managed to get on air because she couldn't really explain because of the nature of the interview. I can fully understand why she was so perky Lillian and I certainly aren't knocking her for it, I hate being in the limelight, my adrenals would have caved in under those circumstances, they cave in if I get excited about a day out lol. I was just thinking I would like to adopt the very same protocol even though I know we are all different. She has a few years on me and is 10 times fitter lol. I know Pam the problem you mention getting the thyroid hormones in with adrenal states, especially after a long period of illness, that is why I was so curious about how achieved it. Thanks Shiela, I would have susptected she had some T3 going on there. If it is in her book I would love to know if the treatment in it is up to date, I am going to try and get to the library for it. I made a big mistake today, thought I could go out to the local shop, 40 yds down the road I was bent over trying to get a breath and and in a lot of pain,a lady I have seen around town came up to help and was very concerned about me bless er. I had to call my hubby to come and get me, how frustrating. Ah well I tried, I am wiped out now, such is life. I am sure I will improve and get to the library, or send my hubby lotsa luv Dawnx
Guest guest
Hi I am delighted that we do have members who are only on L-thyroxione medication and doing so well. This is wonderful news, and long may you continue. I wish we could all tolerate T4 only - but sadly, a large minority of us are unable to convert it to T3. Kepp up the good work, this is so encouraging for newbies. luv - Sheila HiI think everyone is an individual where treatment goes. Guest guest
Hi I am trying as hard as I can to maximize my figure as I want the after photo to look convincing. This would be very convincing evidence that untreated hypothyroidism because you are in the reference range is just not right! I cannot wait until I can walk into my doctors in my blue pin striped suit that I have not worn for years and is hanging in my wardrobe and make an appointment with the doctor who had wrote me off more or less as having copd and show him what a good diagnosis has done!!! It is what I am working towards - seeing the evidence just might then do some good for more of his patients! He won't have a leg to stand on then! Guest guest
Hi I hope it helps you I really do. I am just so very very very lucky that I can tolerate the synthetic T4. However, I would rather be on Armour but could not afford it at present but I am working on that! My TSH is very low though 0.03 but my doctor has not called me in for another appointment so I presume she does not mind leaving me at that. I have no hyper symptoms and I take my heart rate at the gym all the time and they say it is normal after exercise (for someone as unfit as me ha ha it never goes above 130 it is usually about 120 when I am working hard). If I was hyper with a workout it would be sky high I think? Resting it is under 80 anyway and my temperature the other day was 35. something. So no hyper evidence so it just goes to show that something is drastically wrong with these blood tests. Guest guest
Hello , Glad to hear that you too are doing very well on just thyroxine - so am I. We may be in the minority but it just goes to show that everyone is indeed an individual. Keep up the great work in the gym - I go twice a week as well as yoga and since having changed my diet these past four months have been the best I have felt in decades. Long may it last for both of us......... regards, M. > > Hi > > I think everyone is an individual where treatment goes. Guest guest
Hi Yes I will have to get back to the dieting now although I have been exercising but have not lost any further weight for a while - but have not put any on either well I might have put on a pound or two but nothing much. Minst you they say muscle weighs more than fat so it maybee isn't fat gain. But the doctor trying to put down my dose has not helped I stuck it for about one to two weeks and then upped it again and I am staying on 150!! As soon as I tried to put it down I felt terrible again. Well it took a couple of days before it started to tell, my daughter noticed the difference in me too she said 'Mum are you taking your tablets?'. So now I am starting my diet again. I need to get another 2 stone off will let you know weekly how I am doing. I am getting weighed on a Monday. It keeps me good over the weekend. Psychological thing. But I must admit I have been a bit naughty over the past couple of weeks as I have been on holiday from work, haven't been anywhere just indulged myself ha ha As soon as my photo is ready, I think it will take six months to get the rest off, I will put it on. Its a slow business this weight loss thing. Luv > > Well - as soon as that photo is available , add it to our Photo's section of this forum. Guest guest
Hi Just a word of caution about the dieting. Bob posted a link to why we stop losing weight after a while whilst dieting. ''I have been exercising but have not lost any further weight for a while'' It was because of the body adapting to the lower intake of food and becoming a RT3 issue. Also if you over stress your adrenals doing too much regardless of whether you have had adrenal issues before you could slow down the T3 going into the cells. Just a little worried for you hon, thought I would post a little precautionary note lotsa luv Dawnx

Guest guest
Hi Until you get your metabolism stabilised and functioning as it should, it is very difficult to burn off calories. However, go to our website www.tpa-uk.or.guk and click on 'Hypothyroidism' and then click on 'Nutrition and supplements' on the drop down Menu there. If you are not converting the inactive T4 to the active T3, then you will need a combination of either synthetic T4/T3 therapy or natural thyroid extract (Armour Thyroid). Do let us have a copy of your last blood test results together with the reference range for each test. Have you see an endocrinologist, if not, ask your GP to refer you to a thyroid specialist. Guest guest
Hi The results are am on 150 synthetic thyroxine - TSH 0.03 (previous 0.7, worst 3.6) T3 5.0 (3.5-6.5) T4 15.1(8 - 21) I think these reference ranges are right but am unsure. I rang the doctors up and they did not have them only the results. The receptionist got a bit snotty and said what do you want them for if there was anything wrong the doctor would let you know YER RIGHT!!! Its just what I remember when I saw them on the screen. I had them done with the Huddersfield Royal Lab, who calls out on a Friday to our practice. Wonder if anyone on the site has tests done at Huddersfield Royal and knows the reference ranges. Guest guest
Hi Your T3 looked lovely as long as it is not Rt3 in there, you can prolly tell by how you feel anyway. If you are going to diet I recommend not allowin yourself to feel hungry and having weekend holidays where you don't diet, but don't gorge yourself. I realise now that years of yoyo dieting because of tryin to get the weight off with the thyroid problem was the reason I put a little more on every time I came off the diets. Just take care hon lotsa luv Dawnx
Guest guest
Hi again I didn't accept it either because I wasn't fat before it, and it is possible to lose it on thyroxine, trouble is with me with Hashis is I had gone through 'normal' metabolic periods with energy and managed to diet and exercise (very aggressively), then everything would slow down and I was worse off than before I lost it. Every time it slowed down I ended up heavier than I was before the previous losses. So frustating and quite devastating to the body and mind. lotsa luv Dawnx
