When I was put on T3 I felt the effects within 24 hours. It lifted my

moods quite dramatically, and within the week I had lots more energy.

Hi Lizzie

My husband was changed recently from 175 Thyroxine per day to 100

thyroxine plus 2 x 20 dose of T3. The effect was almost immediate

certainly within a couple of days. Also if he misses a dose of T3 or

is very late taking it within the same day he can tell

Hi Lizzie

The effects of T3 should be felt very quickly. I expect you started on a small dose and may have to wait until you get up to the amount that your body requires. Remind us how long you have been taking it.?

I have been taking 10 mcg of T3 for 12 days now, in addition to 75 mcg

of Levothyroxine. I do think I am feeling better, my mood has lifted

and I think i have more energy, I was wondering if it was a placebo

effect and it had'nt yet kicked in, but obviously it has, I take it in

a morning but haven't noticed the effect of it wearing off in the

afternoon, is this normal?

Thanks Lizzie

Sounds as if you are on your way Lizzie. You will probably feel even better when your dose is increased. Has your doctor plans to do this?

---Hi Sheila

It was Dr Burrows who put me on it, but I think he only did this

because he did'nt want to send me away without trying something. He

said that my T4 had been 26.7 when I was taking 100 mcg of

Levothyroxine so my GP had been quite right to reduce me down to 75

mcg. My T4 was 13.2 on 75 mcg which he was happy with and he said I

was converting ok from the T3 result and my TSH was 0.63.

It was because I was feeling lethargic and had aching thighs that he

decided to introduce the T3 in the hope that he could get my T4

somewhere in the middle and help relieve my symptoms.

I have also commenced 200mg ferrous sulphate twice a day because my

ferritin was 15 so hopefully I will get there.

So to answer your question I'm not really sure whether he had any

intention of increasing the T3 or not, I don't see him again until

28th March.

That sounds about the right time to see him again Lizzie. It will probably depend upon your blood results at that time, but you will probably need to increase it.

Hi Lizzie

It is right, T3 is almost immediately recognisable as having effect

of one way or another. I started T3 back in Sept, but within two

hours noticed that I couldn't tolerate due to Adrenals being jiggered

and I got a headache and hyper effects. However, three months down

the line of adrenal treatment (which must be working), I restarted T3

in mid December and wow, within a couple of hours the things I

noticed were the head clearing, like someone has turned on a tap of

air-flow to your brain that you haven't had for years! So, it is

NOT a placebo effect, believe me, you WILL know almost immediately.

I however, was trying Armour after T3 in Sept wouldn't work and it

worked marvellously until November and then I was obviously not

converting and that's why Dr P said it had to be back to T3.

However, I would say that after another month has gone, even on T3, I

went absolutely jiggered last weekend with swollen ankles and really

heavy legs and so worked out it was time to up the dose, however, the

T3 did nothing to alleviate this even when dose doubles and so as

Dp P suggested I have re-introduced a small portion of Armour extra

this week to see if a month one conversion will be better and the

difference is really noticeable, so I think that although T3 is good,

the body also needs the whole lot of hormones that Armour provides

aswell (or T4 in your case) and it has worked (fingers crossed so far

this week) and my ankles and legs have improved and feeling

improvement.

Hope this helps

Hi Lizzie I have a different reaction to T3 than most here. I have had two times when I took T3 both with fantastic results, (I am off it at the moment as want to try and get NHS diagnosis and am currently back to being crap) I never feel anything on first taking T3 and have to build up to high doses, then gradually i realise my symptoms are going or have gone. I start to wake up with no pain, and I actually wake up rather than having to be woken. My tiredness goes and the foggy feeling but it is gradual. I know T3 has a short half life but for me I guess my body needs the benefits of it for a while before it works? Anyway just wanted you to have a differnt point of view, hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones who it works for quickly and on small doses. Carolineecdlstudent44 <ecdlstudent44@...>

Hi everyone

Thankyou to all of you have replied to my questions about T3,

obviously I wasn,t imagining it the T3 must have kicked in as I have

been feeling better, more alert and happier. The thigh cramps had

disappeared until yesterday for nearly 2 weeks so I had begun to think

the T3 was curing that. However they came back yesterday and are still

here today so here's hoping they may be down to my low Ferritin level

of 15 for which I am now on treatment for fingers crossed.

I am similar to Caroline. In fact it took nearly a year before I could say I was 'better'.

Hi Lizzie,

Are you still taking T4 in some form? This may be causing the

cramps- I reduced the T4 and added a little more T3 which did the trick.

Sheila did the opposite added more T4 and reduced T3 which sorted her.

Confusing isn't it!

Hi Lizzie,

I've only just seen this posting about cramps and it makes me think

that it really would be worth you trying magnesium. Two symptoms of

low magnesium are muscle cramps and irregular heart rate. If you do

decide to try it do avoid magnesium oxide as it's not very well

absorbed. Mag citrate is better but there are many to choose from.

>Hi Jennie,

Yes I am still taking the 75 mcg of T4 which Dr Burrows advised me to

leave the same and then add the 10mcg of T3, but I was so frightened

this morning I didn't dare take it (i take T3 in the morning and T4 at

night). I was thinking that maybe I need to reduce the T4 to 50 mcg

especially considering it happened 2 hours after taking that.
