You might try Dr. Gilbert Lee in San Diego. He has been recommended a

lot. Dr. Huang in Denver is $4000 for everything.

Ann,

Dr. Blais can do two things for you, depending on your ultimate goal.

One, he can do an analysis for legal purposes, which will discuss the problems with the manufacturing of your implant, defects, and other valuable information, IF YOU ARE PURSUING LEGAL RECOURSE. He can tell you about shell integrity, and what the breakdown products may contain. Many of us have no legal recourse, but even so, the information is validating to us.

Second, Dr. Blais can tell you if your implants are contaminated. He does not specifically test for pathogens, apparently, although I was under the impression that he did. You may want to call him and talk to him yourself. ( 613-728-8688 )The primary goal of this information is to help us determine which avenue of healing to take, such as treating for mycoplasma or fungus infections.

Again, contact him for more detailed info.

My personal experience was that the hospital's pathology lab where I had my capsule pieces sent provided basically worthless information, and the $200 it cost to have them analyzed was a waste. Here is all it basically said:

Specimen: Breast, right, capsule

Breast, left, capsule

Description: A flat, glistening, gray-tan, fibromembranous soft tissue fragment...(dimensions)...There is no nodularity or suspicious thickening.

Diagnosis: Fibrous capsules. Negative for neoplasia.

This information didn't mean a thing for me. If you are going to have your capsules sent to pathology, make sure you have specified the exact information you want to find out. What I would want to know is, did the entire capsule come out? What was it contaminated with? (Silicone particles? Bacterial colonies? Fungus?) Was there anything abnormal about it?

There is a letter posted in several places on the net and in our group files that is recommended for the pathologist. Print off a copy and follow the directions to get the most out of your pathologist report.

Here is one sample:

Subject: Hey All...about Dr. Feng and pathology stuff

I did not mean to stir up such a contoversial subject, I was just wondering about Dr. Feng's fees. My implants are saline, so I think I will stick with my PS who's prices are reasonable, especially for the Los Angeles area. I do appreciate hearing all of the differing opinions though. Thanks. On another note...I spoke with PS today about the pathology thing. Their policy is to send to pathology who tests tissue for??? They do not test the implants for leaks. Then they send to Mcgahn (SP?). They test for leaks and will reimburse $1200.00 if found. Of course I did not trust this, but a staff member I trust SWEARS that a few of their patients have gotten checks from the manufacturer. Also, my PS said he will weigh them which will give us an idea of leakage from the valve. He says that the leaf type valve was very leaky, but the kind I have is about 1%.Anyway, of course if I send to Blais, they will not reimburse. As I was reading on this site, it seems to be a reaction to the bags more than anything else that causes sickness right? In other words, what proof am I looking for with Blais? I think I forgot. I know I have asked this before, but my brain does not always function properly, so please forgive me!!! I think I read somewhere on this site that he does not test for fungus? I might be wrong. Any input will help. I am trying to decide what to do.Ann
