Ann,

I didn't have mine weighed. Well he could have but I never asked. At that point I didn't think of that, and that was not a concern. My r. implant ruptured during removal He explained he tried to remove it fully intact like I wanted but was just really difficult. You can see where the entire implant was inact except this tiny itsy bitsy whole was, actually it was more of a tear because the torn part was still intact and hanging so it never ripped off. My other implant was intact and full. Like I said mine were completely clear and couldn't see brown, color or tree life in it, but I'll wait and see what the report says. I don't think mine had meds in the saline, but never know.

Ann, what I did prior to explant was type a letter of all my request and give it to him. I explained to him I simply wanted to make sure he understood what I wanted in writing and that I might not communicate prior to the removal due to being nervous and distracted and all. He was professional and nice. He didn't have an attitude or anything. He just said okay and did it. Plus, he knew I was a nurse and had some connections in the city so I used that to my advantage if you know what I mean. But none the less you could try this and see if it helps. If its documented there is no mistake in the communication. That was my biggest fear. I was worried if I hadn't written it he would not do it. I was being extremely cautious. Plus prior to the surgery he made copies of my letter i typed and had me sign it.

I also mentioned the fact that through an mri, xray or ct scan they can detect if capsules have been removed or not. He agreed and said yes they can. I told him the things I had researched just to emphasize I knew what I was talking about. I certainly was not in for any type of law suit, but I wanted him to really be on his toes with me, ya know what imean. I didn't want to be the one who felt I had to watch myself but the other way around and it worked.

Well I felt it did and that meant everything to me.

you'd be suprised what you can get when you have thought everything through. I planned out what I wanted to say, how I wanted to come across. I thought it all through. Well, the best I could.

Another thing, most docs don't just provide you with information. You have to initiate the questions. They have little time, and don't want to have to explain it, but keep pressing on! Make them be accountable. You are the one paying! If you let them walk away without answering your questions you let them.

They may get irritated and annoyed, but who cares. Its your life and you are the only one that can do something about it.

Honestly I'm preaching to myself. These are my issues. What I did was a big thing for me. So, this is what I did.

He may have not gotten every single little piece of scar tissue. That may have been impossilbe, but I really trust that he did his very best.

That is all I could ask for. I won't know until i have a mammogram which I will be due next year sometime for my first one. Then we'll see what's there. I trust he did a good job. Until then I've let it go. I'm happy with how things went and i'm moving on to better things.

I see no point on dwelling on what could have been or stressing over every little thing I didn't think of. I felt good about the decision I made and its behind me now.

However, I was still researching surgeons up until the last day just to make sure I had covered all my bases. (all along I felt in my heart I was supposed to see to him)

FYI,

Deb

I typed it professional format etc. I had like 5 request on it. He documented all that in my explant removal discussion prior to the actuall surgery.

Hey guys,Thanks for the advice. I will clarify with doc what he meant,he mentioned pathology charge $250.00. So I think he was saying that they go back to manufacturer who will do the pathology, but now I am not sure. I will double check everything at preop appointment thanks to you guys. Just to clarify, I saw that one girl said not to take custody of implants and someone else said she mailed them herself (Debbie?) to Blais. Which way is better? I remember that the doc also said, "Those are mine, they come back to me (manufacturer or whatever). We are obligated to take them and have them tested." And I was thinking, "No, they are mine, I paid for them." But I really didn't care at the time, so I didn't say anything...and he was being very friendly and not

discouraging the surgery. It will be interesting to see if he puts up an arguement when I tell him that I want them. Also, were yours weighed after explant and did they weigh the same as when you put them in? Thanks again,Ann

Ann,

Whether or not you take custody of the implants depends on your ultimate goal. If you are intending to pursue litigation, it would be best if the implants were properly packaged at the point of removal for delivery to your chosen pathology lab, or for delivery to Dr. Pierre Blais in Canada, with an unbroken chain of custody that can be proven so that they can be shown to be uncontaminated.

However, if you do not intend to pursue litigation, you may take custody of them and at your option send them to Dr. Pierre Blais for analysis for fungus, bacteria and other issues. Either way, Dr. Blais can provide the information needed. The question is, can your chosen pathology lab?

Since most pathology labs tend not to recognize the importance of what they are doing, you must provide them with a clearly described list of steps to take with your implants and/or capsules. This letter can be found in our files and/or links sections on the website.

Under no circumstances should they be allowed to be in the possession of the manufacturer, or your explanting doctor if you do not think that he has your best interests in mind.
