Guest guest
Me too. I didn't have it before thyroxine but had gained a lot of weight in the 8 years before being diagnosed. I don't feel bloated or uncomfortable on such occasions - I just look huge. Some days when I look at myself sideways in the mirror I look pregnant which I hope isn't the case as I'm 52 and my 2 grown up children would be horrified (so would my longsuffering hubby for that matter)!!! I wonder if it is not perhaps the thyroxine but something in one of the 'fillers' they put with it? Re:Can symptoms get any stranger? Guest guest
I also have suddenly developed 'belly swelling' and feel (and look) uncomfortable. I DO look pregnant, which would be a miracle at my age. I have been told to drink copious amounts of water, which I have started today. I believe there was a discussion recently on the NTH forum about this, but never read the messages. Did anybody else, and what did they recommend, or what reason did they give for this to be happening? Guest guest
Hi - I had 'wind' too on levothyroxine and this is one of the things that I have noticed has stopped since starting Armour 3 weeks ago. I dont think its your hear, I think its the synthetic T4 in levothyroxine! But I know a few people who do well on it so it may settle down. Key is - dont worry! - Im sure its not your heart! When you have the right dose you will know if levothyroxine is for you or if you want to think about Armour - well, that was my dilemma and Ive chosen to try Armour and I think its the right decision for me already! Gill I too have the bloated and uncomfortable feeling, have a lot of wind and bad indigestion nearly all the time, infact it scares me as i think its my heart, I have been on an increased dose of L-thyroxine for 5 weeks now. 125mcg. I just hope it settles down, I think some of it is anxiety. Guest guest
Add me to the pregnant belly list! I've had to dig out some of my old pregnancy clothes as my normal ones won't go across my belly some days. I sometimes have to pull my skirt zip right down for comfort when the skirt fitted perfectly well and even had room left when I put it on. This indicates that in a couple of hours I must be expanding by 2 or 3 inches at least around the waist. ( The strange thing is, my belly size and shape changes quite randomly. It doesn't appear to be a food allergy as it even happened when I was ill one week and didn't eat anything. I'm currently on 100 mcg thyroxine and, so far, it has made absolutely no difference to the swelling and sudden weight gain episodes which strike out of the blue. I'm getting heartily fed up with people musing about my forthcoming " happy event " Arghhhh! Tracey

Guest guest
Hi Sheila, I also have a fat belly, but mine is purely fat, a real budda belly. Have you tries acdophilus to rebalance your gut flora? Guest guest
I think mine is fluid - as it is not always there, I know hypothyroids put loads of weight on around the tummy, bum, tops of thighs, but my tummy looks quite odd at the moment. The nearest is a 'pregnant' look - about 7 months. I will get some acidophilus, though not quite sure what that will do. I am on a drinking water binge right now as I have been told this is the answer. Luv - Sheila Hi Sheila, I also have a fat belly, but mine is purely fat, a real budda belly. Guest guest
Gluten intolerance was the first culprit but has been ruled out by giving up all gluten-containing things for 3 months (made no difference)and also by having 2 separate bloodtests more recently. It doesn't actually seem to be linked with food intake as I've been swelling up all over. The already-fat belly just seems to swell up more than the rest of me, sometimes in the course of a couple of hours. The joke with my friends is that I suffer from tides ;o) !!
