Hi ,

I can totally relate.

I'm afraid I don't have any answers but I have been stopping and

starting with my T4 and my adrenal supplements and getting very

impatient with it all too.

I stopped my T4 in anticipation of taking adrenal supplements then I

decided to do the adrenal stress test so I had to stay off the adrenal

supplements, but I had been a week off my T4 by that time, then I

messed up the adrenal test the first time by doing it on a day when I

had a root canal, so I had to wait for another test kit in the post so

I decided to start back on the T4 for a couple of days. I am doing the

adrenal test today so I will be off the T4 and on the adrenal

supplements as of tomorrow.

The six week half life of T4 should mean that you have it in your

system but I felt the lack of it after a week, or at least I think I

did.

You could always go back on your T4 if it would make you feel better.

Then when you have the HC in your hand and you can plan exactly how

long you are going to stop your T4 for, and when to start the HC,

without having the uncertainty of waiting for the HC to arrive.

Is there any way you can chase up your HC?

Jane.

Hi "Silly "

There's an old saying "never trouble trouble, until trouble troubles you" - and this is what you are doing. You are troubling trouble and it hasn't troubled you, nor is it likely to. Always remember that if you are short of a hormone, the ONLY thing to do is to supplement with the hormone you are lacking. Your adrenals are not putting out the amount of cortisol that they should, so you need hydrocortisone. I know you will still worry, but please try not to, because it is a vicious circle, the more you worry, the more stressed you will become - and worrying about something that is very unlikely to happen is a waste of time - honestly.

When you ordered your HC, did they give you an approximate time for it to arrive. If not, send them an email and ask if they could trace where about it is.

This is my 7th day being off T4 and my HC still hasnt arrived, I am really anxious to get this started and dont want to be off my T4 for too long. I am not coping with stress very well right now and feel I need to get things moving, although I know I have to stay off the T4 for a week to 10 days after starting the HC and I am going back on at half my original dose which will be 75mcg. I am worried I am not going to get on with the HC and then keep thining what do I do then? I have had 2 night of not very good sleep, restless legs in the night and getting really angry because I cant rest and sleep! I know I bring a lot of it on myself but cant help it. I have a doseing schedule ready for the HC but keep thinking what if I react to it in a bad way? From silly !No virus found in this incoming message.

Hi ,

6-8 days is the half-life

6 weeks is about the time to completely clear any added L-T4.

around about 5-6 times the half life.

eg 6 x 7 days = 42 days

Hi - both are correct. T4 is slow acting, with a half-life of about one week as Bob says - after a week, you have about half the level of the T4 still in your body, a week or so later you have half of that half remaining, and so on. Its full effects aren't reached until about six weeks after starting or changing a dose, which is why lab tests are optimally done every six weeks or so until a patient with hypothyroidism has reached satisfactory and stable thyroid hormone levels. T3, on the other hand, has a half-life of about a day. People on T3 sometimes feel its effects within minutes after taking it.

Hope that explains things.

- it is ONLY 6 days since you ordered the HC and remember, this is coming from the States. Normally, you should expect to receive medicine from IP within 7 to 10 days. was one of the lucky ones.

If you are so worried about taking HC - you should be just as worried about taking L-thyroxine. HC is an adrenal hormone that you need to take because your adrenals are not producing enough HC, in the same way as your L-thyroxine is a thyroid hormone that you need to take because your thyroid is not producing enough. You are NOT going to take either in super-large doses because either would make you extremely unwell and all you are doing is replacing what is not there. There are tens of thousands (probably millions) world wide taking HC and getting their lives back.

Steroids are made naturally in the body e.g. cholesterol, cortisol, vitamin D, etc.

Luv - Sheila

I know what you are saying is right Sheila, but its just me.

who is a member here said his HC took 6 days to arrive from International Pharmacy, mine was despatched on the 13th, last wed. My worry and anxiety will probabaly get better once I have started the HC and realise its what I have needed for a long time, my partner is worried because its not something that has been prescribed by my gp and I am doing it on my own, well not totally because Dr P knows but he says he is worred because its a steriod, I have read and read all I can on it and all I read points to the same thing, its fine in small doses as long as it is needed. Is it a hormone or steriod or both? I wont re start the T4 until I have been on the HC for a week to 10 days as advised.

Hi Sheila

Its funny really because I am not in the slightest bit worried about taking thyroxine but then I have taken it for nearly 2 yrs.

I can see what you are saying though, I know I need both, but I think because I was prescribed the Levo then I feel ok about that, but becasue I havent been prescribed the HC I am more worried about it, does that make sense? Like you say I will not be taking massive doses of HC, it will be ok. I am building up with it starting at 2.5mg.

It has to make me feel better! And once it does I wont be as scared! And I am hoping it wont be something I need for ever like I will the thyroxine.

From a slightly more confident !

I don't think our Dr Peatfield would be happy to hear this , after all, he did recommend you try HC and he is a fully qualified doctor, more qualified than the majority of endocrinologists through his knowledge of thyroid and adrenal problems, so please put your faith in him. He really does know what he is doing and would not recommend HC if he felt you didn't need it.

Hi ,

If your GP ignored the recommendations in the L-T4 PIL (Patient

Information Leaflet) and/or the BNF (British National Formulary)

on testing for adrenal function before placing anyone on a thyroid

hormone product, it is right to question that practice; whether the

doctor is 'winging it' is another matter.

best wishes

Bob

hope the hydrocortisone turns up soon ~ but (Guided use) OTC Corlan

Pellets (by Celltech) would get you started at 2.5mg/tab.

I actually asked him if I could try Hc Shelia and I was a bit unsure as to whether he even remembered me! He must see hundreds of people everyday, how can he be expected to remember them all let alone what their salivary results were!?

Incidently when we finished the phone call he called me Jane! I do trust his knowledge and he is a very clever man and I will take the HC, just wanted to point the above out

Just to clarify, I did not mean anything bad towards Dr P at all, when I said I hadnt been prescribed HC by my doctor, it may have sounded bad but wasnt meant to, I meant I havent actually got a prescription in my hand as such and am very unlikely to get one from my own Dr. I recognise Dr P is a doctor and am in no way undermining him and his knowledge, it is my own self doubt of myself that makes me like this, I will shut up about it all now as no doubt you are all fed up about hearing about it everyday, sorry!

Don't worry about this , I know you didn't mean anything bad - and it is just that you are a little frightened about taking something you know little about and that it is a steroid. Most of us have to go through this at one time or another when the NHS is not giving us the attention and care we need, and it is very worrying as none of us are medically qualified. We all need to feel a doctor is prescribing what we need and is looking after our health.

We don't get sick of anybody writing here, this is why we are here, so any questions you need to ask - then ask away, and any knowledge you have picked up, then let us know - it helps us all.
