Val Ive been taking the generic hydrocortisone by west ward for the last two and a half months its what I started on. I've just bought Cortef at the suggestion of Dr Peatfield and have been on it about a week. Luv Bev

Hi Bev,

I first tried the generic when I run out of cortef & someone lent me some. I had cut down my morning dose by half as I thought I was going to run out, and basically it was probably 1 week before I was taking the "proper" cortef again. I am not sure on the facts but I felt rough for weeks afterwards before becoming stable again. As I now am not sure what I did exactly, and it was not a time to try to reduce my hc, I am going to swap generic for cortef in a few weeks time, when I am over my dental visits. I will swap regularly for either 2 weeks or a month at a time, to give it a fair go. I really hope that I will find the generic as good as I do not want to have to buy the more expensive cortef. Anyway I am taking isoocrt for the 2 middle (or sometimes 3 if needed) doses per day & only use hc 7.5mg when I wake up & 2.5mg when I go to bed.

Taking 2.5mg when I go to bed (this is not the same as during the evening) has helped me sleep better, and also meant that I am not depleted when I wake up in the morning, and so if I have to go out in the morning I do not feel as bad. Up to then I was feeling bad all morning even starting with 10mg with breakfast. Now also I have this with 1/4 glass of raw goats milk as soon as I open my eyes rather than waiting for breakfast, which helps to either get me going, or have another hours sleep if that is what I want. It has taken years to work out what suits me better in terms of taking hc, and so I thought this might also help someone else.

Oh! Yes, I too have found that I am sleeping much better now that I am

on HC. Still wake up utterly shattered though, but then I have a

loooong way to go before my thyroid meds are right.

Hi Val,

My DW has been taking cortisol with TD meds (and a beta-blocker/

+pacemaker) over the last seventeen years and she too had to find out

the hard way. Once the personal idiosyncracies are worked out, it

becomes easier by the month to find a good dose regime.

Are you adding in some zinc (+small dose of copper) whilst using

cortisol?

best wishes

Hi kerri;

Sorry ive taken so long to respond. Ive been on the generic hydrocortisone for for 5 months by Westward. I could not tell the difference from Cortef. If anything I prefer it. Its so much cheaper too. I tried the Cortef at Dr Ps suggestion also.

I'm just about to start one or the other and doing my research.luv keri I will find the generic as good as I do not want to have to buy the more expensive cortef. Is it working Val?
