Guest guest
Hi , I certainly do agree that you should slowly build up the HC but there are so many people out there dosing differently that I wouldn't say there are any absolutes regards how much and when. I take mine 4 times a day and take the highest dose first thing, for example: 7.5mg, 5mg, 2.5mg, 2.5mg but I know of some who take the whole lot in the morning or just divide it in to two doses. I do think that the majority of people do better on the schedule above though. You may at some point experience a thyroid dump because the cortisol suddenly kicks in, in which case you would do well to stop your meds and reintroduce when things calm down. This may not happen though because you are only going to be taking a very low dose of HC. Guest guest
Hi I agree with the others, you need to gradually build up your usage. I too had a nasty thyroid dump as I started with too much. If you do it slowly, then you gradually notice the hc kicking it. There's a very good group I would recommend that has lots of useful info and help, NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ Also there is an associated web site, which has a great guide on starting up and how to slowly ramp up your dosage. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/how-to-treat/ I would also recommend reading some of the files in the NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS group, especially about stress dosing. This is when you get some kind of stress that requires extra hc, such as a cold or a stressful situation. It's useful to be prepared. I've had 2 colds now, and had to stress dose twice, and the first time was tricky but now I've done it twice it's okay, you just increase the dose and when the symptoms go you reduce back to the original dose at the recommended schedule. Good luck Rod > > Hi > > I am soon going to start taking Hydrocortisone and wanted to ask you > all how I should take it. > > My GP instructed me to take 7.5mg in the morning and 5mg at lunch > time. Guest guest
Hi , suggest you get ( or borrow a copy from our library) of Jeffries 'Safe Uses of Cortisol. an excellent book on the subjest that alleviated all me worries on the subject. > > Hi> > I am soon going to start taking Hydrocortisone and wanted to ask you> all how I should take it. >> > > > > > Everything in one place. Guest guest
I have that book I am happy to loan out - it is with Sara at the moment but when it is returned, you are welcome to borrow it. To everybody, are you aware that TPA-UK has its own lending library. Several of our members are happy to loan out their thyroid books for the cost of postage. Go to ourFILES and scroll down to TPA-UK lending Library. There you will see a list of thyroid books with the email address of the person who will lend this out. All you have to do is to write to that person and ask for their name and home address to enable you to send them stamps to cover the cost of them posting the book out to you. I recommended £1.50 in stamps, but this was a long time ago, and perhaps it would now be safer to send £2.00 stamps. We only ask that anybody borrowing the books let's the lender know how long you will expect to take to read it and when you would hope to send it back. There are always other's waiting to borrow it too. Guest guest
Hi everyone! I started taking HC about 10 days ago, starting at 2.5mg in the morning and increasing by 2.5mg every 3 days. So, now I am on 5mg in the morning, 2.5mg at 12pm and the same again at 4pm. However, the last 2 days I have been wired, with lots of energy. Maybe too much. My problem is I am unable to sleep. It takes ages to get to sleep and then I wake up around 5 am, unable to get back to sleep. I think there are a couple of potential reasons for this: (1) I have increased the HC too quickly and should stretch out the " ramping-up " period or (2) my T4 (100mg) is finally working properly (maybe too well) and I need to reduce the dose to 75mg or 50mg. As always I would really appreciate your input. Thanks. PS - I did a blood test today to see what my TSH and FT4 levels are.
Guest guest
Hi , I can fairly confidently say that you should stop taking the thyroid until you start to feel hypo. It's actually common practice to stop all thyroid meds whilst introducing HC because of the reaction you are experiencing now. You are likely to have built up a fair bit of T4 in the blood which the HC is busily helping to convert and causing you to feel quite hyper. This will resolve as the build up reduces. Reintroduce the T4 slowly once you begin to feel your body has slowed down. Guest guest
Hi Bella, That makes sense, thanks. How long would you usually have to wait before reintroducing the T4? Are we talking about 1 week or 1 month?
Guest guest
It's not easy to be exact but I'd guess it could be as little as a few days or as much as a month - although I very much doubt it will be a month now that you're on HC. You will definitely know when the time comes to re-introduce it though because you will get the return of all your hypo symptoms: tiredness, depression, lethargy, aches and pains and so on. I do think you will feel very much better now that you are on HC! Luv Bella > > Hi Bella, > > That makes sense, thanks. How long would you usually have to wait > before reintroducing the T4?
