Happy 4th to everyone! In addition to the links to holiday eating

tips that I post before all the holidays (in the next post in a

second) , I'm going to address the different holiday foods.

Thanks to the person who asked for this! Great idea!

I know this is the first major holiday for many of the newer people.

I don't want you to think you can't have a great time and enjoy

holidays and your family/friends, bu a few thoughts to remember will

keep the holiday problem-free.

I saw a post elsewhere that suggested talking with others while

you're eating. I'm afraid this is often a recipe for disaster. we

must pay very close attention when we are eating, especially in

groups of people that can easily distract us so we forget the tiny

bites and very thorough chewing that remain basic to ALL band eating.

hamburgers: usually fine if good quality, not dry and hard. (forget

the bread)

hot dogs - can be fine if good quality and skinless

steaks - fine if not dry and good quality

chicken - can be ok if NOT dry. Forget the skin, use sauces and dips.

Many people have trouble with chicken.

potato salad - fine, be careful of any pieces of celery/onion and

chew up very well

deviled eggs - great, good protein

baked beans - fine, good protein

corn on the cob - CAUTION !! very hard to chew well enough, and a

pea-sized bite is ONE kernel . alternate with bites of other things.

fruit salad - CAUTION !! all fruit must be peeled. grapes and bits of

apple skins, pear skins, etc can be a disaster as they just can't be

chewed up very well. The membranes of the citrus are also very hard

to chew up well.

chips and dip - no comment ! :-)

Sodas, beer - the carbonation is really not a good idea, and the

burping can be very painful.

Desserts - this is Holiday ! have a few treats ! ice cream, at

least, has some protein. cakes and cupcakes can be deadly, as they

glom together.

Do your best not to graze all day. This can result in s huge # of

calories going in.

I hope you all and your stomachs have a great weekend! :-)
