Guest guest
>Hi Sheila, Thankyou , will go and look at that file and make all my notes. I have managed to get the results of my blood test for iron count after having it taken this morning. Everything is in the normal range, the low normal range actually, and my ferritin level is 11 (normal range 10 - 291) RBL is 4.9 ( normal 4 cant remember the high number) So am wondering whether or not I should be taking any ferrous sulphate? Lilian, thanks for that about the reaction to your GP and endo.....but I suppose its the same for everyone, they dont like it when you dont beleive them and wont do as they say. Will take my chance like you Deb x > > > Go to our Files and you will find one called " First visit to Endocrinologist " . > > > > >
Guest guest
Hi Deb > I have managed to get the results of my blood test for iron count > after having it taken this morning. Everything is in the normal range, > the low normal range actually, and my ferritin level is 11 (normal > range 10 - 291) Where did that particular reference come from I wonder. I have never heard of a reference range for ferritin that starts as low as 10 to 291. The usual 'normal' range is 20 to 200 for women and 30 to 300 for men. Your result is ridulously low. For your body to function properly, your Ferritin level needs to be around 70 to 90. Don't these doctors know anything ? RBL is 4.9 ( normal 4 cant remember the high number)> So am wondering whether or not I should be taking any ferrous sulphate? Yes you should be taking Ferrous Sulphate. Start low and gradually build the dose up to 200 mgs daily. Some people take 200 mgs twice daily. DO remember though that you shouldn't take iron with any thyroid hormone replacement, try to take it at leadst 4 hours apart. > Lilian, thanks for that about the reaction to your GP and endo.....but > I suppose its the same for everyone, they dont like it when you dont > beleive them and wont do as they say. Will take my chance like you > Deb x As far as I'm concerned, doctors and endo's can say what they like, so long as they can back up what they say with evidence. Never believe a doctor tells the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth - how can they when they haven't been taught the truth? Guest guest
Hi Deb, Docs can do what they like! I'd reduce/stop the dose for 48 hrs before test, that'll give a lower reading as T3 is only in the body for 1-2 days. I see Dr S and he understands that high readings are not necessarily fatal. I've had a T3 of as high as 11 when I thought blood was drawn for a different test, but they did TFT too. ( NHS does tests Dr. S prescribes most of my meds as my GP goes by the numbers only.) >Hi , Thankyou for those words of wisdom. I have now put my T3 back up to 30mcg! I know in the past that Ive taken 40mcgs for a few days and not felt ill, so Im not going to listen to the idiotic docs anymore! Im just going to listen to veryone on here. Can I just ask, that if I was to go down the road of medicating myself, how do I stand when I have blood tests that show my T3 is high, and the doc wants me to reduce the dose? Could I be struck off? Guest guest
Hi Deb, Being hypo can cause all sorts of problems, I empathise with you getting flummoxed I used to lose track of a sentence half way through. Try writing it down and reading it out or hand to him. That way what you say will be all there and not get lost in the pressure of the moment. It is disgraceful that his face visibly falls when he sees you tell him you see that, he should be embarrassed! Do I mention the fact that my weight wont budge no matter what I do, and that i have actually put on 5lbs since my last prescription had 3 different brands of thyroxine in it, as well as feeling tired and lethargic? I get flumoxed really easily when im trying to explain how i feel and my symptoms, probably due to the fact that my GPs face falls whenever he sees me! Guest guest
>Hi Sheila, That is the reference range that the hospital use.(got it straight off the hospital system) I have got my results before my GP! Will be interesting to see whether or not he will prescribe me any ferrous sulphate.... I doubt it seeing as my levels are within range. Good job I have some spare eh? I cant wait to see Dr Burrows, Im sick of feeling under par all the time. I have got constant backache at the moment too grrrrrr Deb x > > > > > > Where did that particular reference come from I wonder. Guest guest
--Hi Deb I had my bloods taken recently by Dr Burrows. My ferritin came back at 15 which was the very bottom of the normal range but my Hb was normal around 14. Dr Burrows had asked for the test, but did not seem at all concerned about my low ferritin. I went to see my own GP who gladly did agree that my Ferritin was too low and has prescribed me ferrous sulphate 200mg twice daily. I just wanted to say make sure that you do take it up with your GP because Dr Burrows may not. He is lovely so please don't let this put you off. Incidently I too am 43 peri-menopause and understand how you are feeling, it can be tough at times. Love Lizzie
Guest guest
>Hi , Glad to hear that you feel well with high readings on T3. Im not sure what the endo will require when I go see him. Will he ask my GP for my blood tests or will he ask me what my readings are, or might he even send me for blood test while im there at the 1st appointment? In my shoes would you stop taking all meds 48 hours before i go to see him just in case? Guest guest
>Hi Lizzie, Thankyou for your reply it makes you feel a little better when someone understands how you feel. Im just so sick of going to my GP. He did have my hormones tested in Sept for the menapause, but was told that I hadnt started in it yet, but then again.... what do they know?! Its the people on this forum that are the experts. , Next time I go to my GP I will ask him why his face falls when he sees me, I fly off the handle so easily these days, thats why I asked what anyone else would do, so thankyou for that. Guest guest
Hi Deb, I've never seen an endo - I went the private route so I don't know the drill. I'd definitely not take meds on the day of the appointment so you don't get any false highs from meds just taken. >Hi , Glad to hear that you feel well with high readings on T3.
