Why does ice cream go down so nice?

I have had 4 fills and eat small amounts of the right foods . Lossing

the weight the right way. But if I wished to I could eat a 1/2 gal of

ice cream with no problum at all. This is the only bad thing about the

band I have found. Does anyone else have this problum?

Seriously I have made goals for myself, I eat very little. I am up in

my computer room, away from food, I have quit cooking..my kids are

all grown and moved out. I was so happy when i found out that i had

to work on Thanksgiving and Christmas...i suggested to my family to

go to a movie instead of eating and they all laughed at me! They call

me a diet fanatic..maybe i am but i have waited 20 yrs. for this and

I am loosing 2 lbs per week, and i have lost 60 lbs! I went out

running at 6 a.m...i clean house in the middle of the night and I

never watch t.v. My husband is thrilled! He said that he can't take

his eyes off of my butt! ( I do look a little better) but I want to

be a size 10, even a 12..anything except not a 18! Love,

yes all those soft yummy foods go thru the band with no problem

however, on night last month I was at a dinner party, and ice cream was the

desert. and it did not go down, it did'nt melt so started to get stuck.

I'm afraid that it's a sad truth that the band works only with good

band foods - primarily solid protein. that is why all/most meals should

start with a few bites of solid protein. It goes thru the slowest, and

kind of " backs up " food behind it, to fill us sooner.

Not fair, for sure! I also don't even keep ice cream in the house. if I

want some, i have to go out for one dish. And, thankfully, most of the

time I'm too lazy to, and just settle for some sugar free jello

puddding.

I honestly have a hard time with ice cream, especially soft serve. So when I DO

end up having to slime it up!

I've never posted to the board before but couldn't help but speak up on this

paticular topic...I too have problems with ice cream! (Now cookies that's a

completely different story!) When I do decide to eat ice cream, it's a very

small dish and very slowly...normally by the time I'd be finished most of

it's all melted!   In my head it has something to do with the thickness of

it...I have the same problem with really cream soups (lobster bisque, cheesey

soups, etc...) Either way neither of those things should I be eatting so I

suppose in the end it's payback for me being bad! lol

I understand;- ) This is why it's a good idea to head to a ice cream

store and just treat yourself to a cone. That way you won't have it

calling your name from the freezer and you can still have the

Kem, I sure agree. I believe in regular treats, so we don't feel

deprived. Banding is not a diet that we stop at some point. it is a

new lifestyle that must be permanent (with the usual small goofs and

occasaional setbacks) if we want to keep the weight off. surely yu

don't think you must never have ice cream again, ken? That would be

horrible.. :-)

We are supposed to be learning better eating and food choices forever

now - and this does NOT mean misery and deprivation, but small treats

so we don't feel deprived.

For me, it was a small dish of ice cream every weekend, and a small

piece of good chocolate maybe 3x a week. Then i was not tempted to

eat a whole gallon of ice cream or a whole box of chocolates.

ther key is moderation.

Beer is carbonated, and THAT is bad, as the carbonation can dilate

the pouch. but i don't believe in never ever having ice cream. that,

to me, would be like a siren song calling to me, day and night. a lot

of this is psychological.

I also love ice cream, so allow myself a small portion of the low-

sugar kind weekly. Then i don't think about it 24 hrs a day, and

eventually cave in, being human.

That's a great weight loss. I found that I love the special K protein bars in

chocolate peanut butter. They have replaced several meals for me. I'm at a

standstill on weight loss and not exercising enough.

, while I DO have trouble with the ice cream, I do NOT have issue with

creamed soups. I think it has to do with the cold versus hot factor in

restricting my band.

Kem, I definitely do not have too tight of a fill (I was unfilled and started

refilling when I became pregnant so I'm pretty loose at this point), but I DO

agree that I must tighten up from the coldness of the ice cream and I think that

the soft serve has air in it which doesn't help.

Glad to see I not the only one with this problum. I have been eatting

S/F popcycles and fudge bars and this really helps. But I have found

out that I can't bring it home without eatting it all . So I don't buy

it anymore also. Thanks for all the replys and good luck to your ice

cream cruves. I hope we all can get over this problum

I just put ice cream out of my mind, in the same way as Beer.  I hope I never do

eat ice cream again but I know that it won't kill me.  This is a lifestyle

change and in my mind by just saying " Ive had a good run, time to turn a new

page " well it seems to work for me.  I do know that I will never have another

beer........and the idea that it could actually hurt me (carbonated)...well that

will keep me away, cause Im chicken when it comes to that!!
